Members of over 40 groups attended a countywide meeting of Wexford Public Participation Network(PPN) in the Riverside Park Hotel, Enniscorthy to hear guest speaker Davy Fitzgerald give an inspirational talk about community involvement.

A mixture of women's, sports, arts, tidy towns, development, scouts and environmental groups came together under one roof to form connections and pick up useful information about other organisations.

The sweet sound of Wexford Sinfonia who are PPN members, could be heard above the chatter as they entertained the crowd mingling at an exhibition of information stands.

During a facilitated meeting, members discussed Wexford PPN and how it can develop into the future. Chair of the event Pat Rath highlighted the importance of community participation in order to make our communities better places to live and work for all.

An inspirational talk was given by Wexford Senior Hurling Manager Davy Fitzgerald who spoke about the benefit of ordinary people getting involved in their communities.

'To give of your free time to be involved in groups is amazing,' he said. 'Sometimes you might think the work you do goes unnoticed but it doesn't. Don't feel undervalued. Groups shape people.'

He highlighted the importance of making a difference,. 'I love winning but most of all I would love to think that I've created a better person,' he said.,
