One of the all time great comedy musicals is showing at St Michael''s Theatre in New Ross from tonight (Tuesday).

The members of St Michael's Theatre Musical Society are celebrating their tenth anniversary with a show which is the hottest ticket in town. In fact, things got so hot during one rehearsal lately that the local fire brigade had to be called to the theatre. It's not sure yet whether it was the scorching dance routines, the sizzling vocals or the highly combustable comedy that raised the alarm, but thankfully the brave New Ross fire fighters were on hand to ensure that the situation was kept under control.

While the society was thankful for the intervention of the fire services, they have yet to offer any guarantees that they will not set the stage alight again during Legally Blonde which is showing every night this week until Saturday, November 25th.

Under the sophisticated guidance of production team Kevin Kennedy, Philip Kennedy and Claire Kickham the cast and chorus have been put through their paces in rehearsals.

Legally Blonde The Musical, tells a story which will be familiar to many, as it is based on the 2001 movie of the same name. It revolves around Elle Woods, a carefree girl from Malibu, California, whose only ambition in life is to marry her childhood sweetheart, Warner. However, when Warner breaks up with her and reveals his plans to study law at Harvard, Elle decides to follow him in a desperate attempt to win him back.

While at Harvard she meets Emmett, who shows her that she can be more than just an accessory.

The cast features many of St Michael's regular faces including Ashley Doran as Elle Woods, Keith Flanagan as Emmett and Trevor Kent as Warner. Also playing major roles in this production are Joanne McCabe, Zoe Smith, Kevin Reade, Claire O'Connor and Lizzy Heffernan. The part of Elle's Greek chorus is played by Kerrie Campbell and outstanding newcomers Caoimhe Boyle and Caoimhe Kelly.

With a colourful set, a lively musical score and hilarious comedy throughout, this promises to be a hugely enjoyable and entertaining show from this award-winning group.
