Runners make tracks in Turkey Run
FIFTY runners participated in the inaugural New Ross Turkey Run to raise money for New Ross River Search & Rescue.
Organised by Brian Mullett and Martin Mizgajski of the Brandon House Hotel leisure club, the event took place on St Stephen's Day drawing some serious competitors from local running and athletics' clubs. The runners set off on the 4 km run beginning at the health centre continuing down to the town park and back up to the hotel, raising €500 in the process.
Mr Mizgajski said: 'I was surprised by the turn out as it was a bad day and the event was organised at short notice. The money raised will go to New Ross River Search & Rescue who worked so hard during the recent search.'
He said there were many strong competitors in the field.
'People didn't come here for a jog; they came to race. We had about 15 women and 35 men.
'They were serious about winning and nobody was dressed up in festive clothing. They came ready for a proper run.'
Everyone who participated received a medal.
It is planned to hold a similar event next year, this time with a more festive theme and spirit to it.
'Next year we will put in more effort and have a more Christmas theme,' Mr Mizgajski said.
