Winning streak continues for athletes
Two New Ross athletes who are on a winning streak this summer had another great result in triathlons at the weekend.
Linda Kelly is continuing her winning career with another big win in the Carrick-on-Suir triathlon. With over 200 athletes taking on the 750m swim in the river Linda came in sixth out of the water but her strength is on the bike where she proved to be the strongest of all and moved into the second place with her high speed performance over 20kms, before completing a 5km run.
She did a great run and passed the leading girl 2km into the run and managed to stay away for the rest of the race.
Marcin Mizgajski on the other hand decided to go abroad for a weekend race in his home town in Poland. Marcin said: 'It is always a special and very important race for me as I can see my family and a few old friends, plus the bike course is passing my house twice and that gives me a chance to wave to my 82-year-old granny who is always watching my progress.'
Marcin had a hectic build up to the race, arriving on the morning of the event. He built his bicycle and competed in the big cycle, called Garmin Iron Triathlon with more than 400 athletes taking part. 'The swim was in the lake. I was 11th after the swim but than on the bike (22.5km) I clocked the fastest time and moved to the third overall.'
During the 5km run he held on to take third place overall which gave him a first place win in his age group. Marcin and Linda's next race will be Tri the Hook Triathlon. 'This is another fantastic event that we are looking forward to do,' Marcin said.
