Slimmers to take on 20km Hike to the Hook
Hike to the Hook will be held on Saturday, April 29, and several local people have been training with Slimming World in preparation for the 20km event.
The walk and run takes place along one of Ireland's most scenic road walks starting from Tintern Abbey and ending at Hook Lighthouse.
All proceeds go towards the RNLI and Hook Rural Tourism.
At the time of going to press, bookings had exceeded 390. Places are limited so to avoid disappointment people are advised to go online as soon as possible at www.hiketothehook.com and book their place. For people looking for a less challenging walk, there are 12.5km and family friendly 3.5km options available.
The walk is suitable for people of all ages and makes for a fantastic day out.
Members of Yvonne Byrne's Slimming World group are taking part.
Mother of three Rebecca Cummins, 47, will be taking on the 20km route. Rebecca started with Slimming World in October 2015, at 12 and a half stone, having been four stone heavier some years previously for a time and quickly made great strides forward, losing two stone within nine months. She has managed to maintain her weight. Rebecca said: 'For years I stopped and started with exercise. I used to walk on an odd day during the weekend. I always feel great after the training and I've walked around 10km, so I'm looking forward to taking on the 20km.'
Rebecca will be walking with members of her Slimming World group.
Now in its second year, the walk attracts people from across the region to take in the specactular views of the Hook Peninsula, while getting some great exercise. Hook Tourism would like to thank their main sponsors Wexford County Council, Bannow Bay Oysters, Wallaces of Wellingtonbridge and Hook Lighthouse most sincerely for their continued support of this great event. Without their ongoing support events such as Hike to the Hook could not take place. Complimentary buses will be available on the day to return participants to their cars.
