The siblings who were killed in a car accident on the N25 on Wednesday were laid to rest on Saturday in the village where they grew up.

Brother and sister Anne Dempsey (47) and Sylvester 'Sylvie' Dempsey (44), pictured, died after a Land Rover Discovery was involved in a head-on collision with Anne's Renault Clio shortly before 1.30 p.m. last Wednesday - exactly seven years from the day their mother Ellen died,

A garda investigation is now under way.

Their father Mylie, who lived with Sylvie and Anne, said: 'I was at home on Wednesday at 5 p.m. when a beangarda, another garda and Fr Murphy came to see me. I knew it was bad. When they told me what happened I was stuck to the ground. I couldn't ever explain how bad it hit me.'
