There was great craic in Creacon Lodge recently at the annual New Ross and District Chamber of Commerce barbecue.

The barbecue also marked the launch of this year's New Ross and District Business and Community Awards and was attended by a large group of business people and community representatives. Now in their ninth year, the awards are firmly established, attracting over 75 entries in 2016. They provide business and community groups in the town and district an opportunity to share their inspiring stories and showcase achievements.

The barbecue provided an ideal opportunity for members to network as well as enjoy a fun night out and some tasty treats.

On the night Chamber president, John McSweeney welcomed all those in attendance and said it was great to see so many members present at the barbecue and launch.

This year's business award includes some firm favourites such as New Start up Business Award, Small Business of the Year Award, Community & Social Enterprise Award and New Ross & District Person of the Year Award.

The hotly contested Business Woman of the Year Award and Sports Club of the Year Award feature for their second consecutive year with the addition of two new categories including Professional Services Award and Social Media Award.

Applications are now open for the 2017 awards and business and community groups will have until September 29 to enter and winners will be announced on November 4.
