Millionaire ticket sold in Clonroche
There is great excitement around Clonroche village after Kavanagh's Village Forecourt service station sold the winning ticket in the Millionaire Raffle which took place on New Year's eve.
The owner of the ticket, who is from Co Wexford but who wishes to remain anonymous, said that from the moment he bought the ticket early in December he had a feeling it was going to be lucky.
The first three digits of the ticket were 191 - like a new car registration number - and the lucky punter said he thought to himself at the time 'I'll have a winner on this'.
'At about 11 p.m. in New Year's eve I checked the number and the second I saw the winning number I knew it was me,' he said.
'After double-checking I ran downstairs to my wife and just said "do you want to shake hands with a millionaire?",' he added.
The man said that he is over the moon to have won but his lucky break hasn't phased him and he is keeping his feet firmly on the ground.
'Maybe it hasn't really sunk in yet and I might be different when I see all those zeros added to my bank balance,' he said.
He plans to wait until it has all sunk in before deciding what to do with the money, however, he does plan to look after his family and help his children out with their mortgages.
It's a dream start to the New Year and commenting on the win co-owner of Kavanagh's Village Forecourt, Rita Greene, said it's hard to believe the shop recorded its second lotto winner after having national lottery success nine years ago.
'This is bringing back memories of the excitement when we sold the winning lotto jackpot in November, 2010,' she said.
'What a great way to start off 2019 for one of our customers,' she added.
'It's a dream start to the year.'
