Integer (formerly Lake Region Medical), have officially kick-started their 2019 Charity of the year programme, having chosen to support Pieta House.

Each year employees are invited to put forward nominations for charity of the year and these suggestions are then voted on by employees. This year Pieta House in Wexford was the chosen charity.

An Integer spokesperson said: 'From humble beginnings, Pieta House has grown to almost 270 therapists and administration staff, and the demand for their service hasn't let up. In 2017 alone, over 7,000 people approached them for help, people suffering from suicidal ideation and/or engaging in self-harm, or to avail of suicide bereavement counselling. Everything is free of charge and their staff are fully qualified and provide a professional one-to-one therapeutic service for people who are experiencing suicidal ideation, people who have attempted suicide and people who are engaging in self-harm.'

90 per cent of their income comes from fundraising events so they rely heavily on the support and encouragement of volunteers and friends of Pieta. To date this year the employees of Integer have held several events to support Pieta House including a mental health awareness day in the Mercy School, participation in Darkness into Light and a five-a-side soccer tournament held in the Good Counsel College. Nine teams from the company took part in what were hard fought group stages, with The Hangover FC team eventually winning out with a 2-0 win over the Dream Team.
