Fr Michael Doyle's joy as he celebrates his silver jubilee
Having been ordained in 1994, Fr Michael Doyle was overjoyed to return to his parish church in Terrerath for his silver jubilee, surrounded by family, friends and parishioners.
The Terrerath native was joined by his mother Mary and sister Yvonne, along with priests from across the diocese, for the special occasion.
Fr Doyle is hospital chaplain at Wexford General Hospital and has served the community of St Leonards and in north Wexford also.
After the Mass everyone went to the Horse & Hound for a meal and music by Heartbeats, a band that performed at Fr Michael's first Mass a quarter of a century previously.
Fr Doyle's mother said it was a proud day for the Doyle family.
'It was a very special day. There was a big crowd of around 250 people; neighbours, friends and parishoners of Michael's from across the county were in attendance.'
Fr Odhran Furlong spoke of the great contribution Fr Doyle has made to the parishes he has served and Fr Michael thanked everyone for coming and his mother for her support over the 25 years. Mary said many people travelled from Bagnalstown where her late husband and Fr Michael's father John hailed from for the Mass and celebration, at which the popular priest received many gifts. Everyone enjoyed music after the meal and the craic continued into the early hours of the next day.
Mary said: 'It was a great occasion; one I'll remember for all of my days.'
