Duncannon Fort works to cost millions

Works on Duncannon Fort's development will cost millions.

Speaking at last week's New Ross Municipal District council meeting, executive engineer Abraham Dunne said: 'Conservation works are complete on Duncannon Fort following €154,000 of improvement works which included a series of restoration works to the entrance gates, piers and north lunette.

Also the rebuilding of the collapsed arch pedestrian bridge, with restoration work to sash windows and roof repair to the officers mess building. Five new intepretative panels have been installed and an ecology trail with four interpretative panels have been installed to create a looped trail from the fort to the pier and down to the sand dunes near the playground area.'

Cllr Martin Murphy said the fort is one of the underdeveloped tourism projects in the district. District Director Eamonn Hore 'The plan is at development stage. It may cost millions.'
