Darkness Into Light cheque presented to Pieta House
This year's Darkness Into Light walk in New Ross raised €29,647 for Pieta House, much to the delight of the organisers.
The figure was an increase of around €5,000 over the last year with around 1,500 people participating on the morning of the event.
The cheque was presented to representatives of Pieta House last week and speaking to this newspaper on Thursday, one of the organisers, Ger Tobin, said the show of support from people within the community in New Ross was fantastic.
Ms Tobin is the Chairperson of the organising committee and she thanked everyone involved in organising the event and the people who turned up to participate.
'It was a great event this year again and we are very grateful to all of the people who turned up on the morning,' she said.
In the two years the event has been held in New Ross the Darkness Into Light walk has raised €55,000 for Pieta House.
Ms Tobin said the pressure is on now to build on that success and work towards increasing the money raised at next year's walk.
Pieta House offers counselling services and support to those who are bereaved through suicide and it relies on volunteer fundraising to carry out it's services.
