Counterfeit €50 note

Gardaí are warning businesses that a counterfeit €50 note has been found in New Ross.

The alert comes as the Christmas season gets well and truly under way in the town and district.

The note was tendered for payment for a meal in a restaurant in New Ross on November 15. Sergeant Eddie Wilde said: 'We are warning all local businesses to be cautious. Often with counterfeit notes the person who uses it is after getting it as change. There are certain businesspeople who, rather than take the loss, might ignore the fact that it's a counterfeit note and keep in in circulation but thankfully that wasn't the case in this instance.'

Any business affected is urged to contact gardaí.
