A 790 kilogram bullock fetched over ¤2,000 for Bóthar when it went under the hammer at a charity auction at the Waterford/New Ross Mart on Saturday.

The bullock, which was sponsored by Waterford/New Ross Mart and the committee of the Waterford/New Ross Mart, was bought by Lacken man Christopher Whelan for a whopping ¤2,250.

'It raised a few bob for Bóthar and was a good idea. This was the first time we raised money for Bóthar and the animal made way over the odds because obviously he was going to charity,' said Jay Brennan, Manager of the Waterford/New Ross Mart.
