Anglers reel in €4k for Pieta House, Hope

Anglers from across the country enjoyed a day's fishing for a great cause at Oaklands Lake outside New Ross, raising around €4,000 for Pieta House and the Hope Centre in Enniscorthy.

This is the third year the lake has hosted a fundraising event, attracting nearly a full house of more than 70 anglers from as far away as Dublin, for the annual charity fundraiser.

The lake was quite full on the day and despite challenging fishing conditions, several species of fish were caught including carp, bream, perch and rudd by the fishermen who ranged in ages from teenagers to more seasoned anglers.

Ivaylo Benov, from Bulgaria, won the overall prizes and a team from east Belfast won the team competition. Local angler John Browne won the U18 competition, ahead of travelling to the world championships in August.

In total €4,000 was raised for Pieta House and the Hope Centre in Enniscorthy.
