€600,000 for roads

Brendan Keane

Funding of €600,000 is to be provided for roads in Wexford through the Community Involvement Grant Programme.

The money will be rolled out over the next two years and will allow for a wide range of works to be undertaken on regional and local roads around the county.

It's expected the works will include surface repairs and strengthening, repair and construction of footways, the easing of bends and the provision of passing bays.

The Department of Transport confirmed that €250,000 will be provided this year with a further €350,000 to be allocated in 2019.

As part of the funding process applications were invited from local authorities for schemes they deemed suitable for inclusion and confirming the allocation Minister Paul Kehoe said Wexford County Council submitted excellent proposals.

The proposed works will include providing hard standing material at field entrances and removal of road edge banks.
