Sale of work showcases parents’ creations
A sale of work exhibiting the creations of green-fingered and artistic parents was held in Catherine McAuley Junior School last week.
Featuring plants and herbs from the Garden Group and fabric flowers and jewelry from the Art/Craft Group, all the items on offer cane from parents of children from Catherine McAuley's, Bunscoil Rís and Kennedy College.
'We have different parents' group who work with tutors from the Education and Training Board (ETB). Carmen Sanchez hosts the Arts and Crafts Group, they make flowers from felt, use recyclable materials, literally anything they can find, old zips, buttons, that kind of thing,' explained Pat Purcell Home/School Liaison at Catherine McAuley's.
Not only was the sale held to showcase the work being done by parents of the schools' children, it was also seen as an opportunity to encourage other parents to join the groups.
With Garden Group classes held on Wednesdays throughout the school year, and Arts and Crafts groups on Tuesdays, Pat said they were always looking to engage with new parents and add new members to their groups.
Revealing plans to include some of the children in the group activities next year, Pat said that all proceeds from the sale of work would go back into the respective groups to help with costs and maintenance.
