PARISH NEWS - Readers for the week-end masses - Saturday 24th November Michael English. Sunday 25th November Ann Marie Cooper. 16 new servers have been appointed to officiate at the Newbawn masses and thanks has been extended to all as well as to their parents.

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in Newbawn Oratory every Tuesday from 10am to 5pm. New members are always welcome.

Feast days -Tuesday 20th St. Edmund, Wednesday 21st November Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Thursday 22nd November is the feast of St. Cecilia. Sunday 25th is the feast of Christ the King, and Tuesday 27th is the feast of St. Fergal.

The prayer group continues in the small church in Adamstown every Sunday night from 7 to 8pm and all are welcome.


The second Annual Christmas Variety Concert takes place in Newbawn church on Friday 7th December at 8pm. Doors open at 7.30pm and all to be seated by 7.50pm.

Performers include the New Ross confraternity band, Stephen Murphy, Tomas Whelan, Kennedy sisters, Murphy/Barron band, and the Newbawn folk choir.

Door prizes include two nights stay in the Gibsons Hotel Dublin. Refreshments will be served, and there will be a raffle in the night for valuable prizes.

The event is being organised by Newbawn Parish Council and admission tickets costing €10 each are available from Bradleys in Newbawn post office, Foleys bar and takeaway, Cullens Gala Adamstown, or from any member of Newbawn Parish Council.


Active retired/Senior Citizens Christmas party will take place this year in the Horse and Hound Ballinaboola on the afternoon of Saturday 29th December at 2pm.

There will be plenty of entertainment including dinner, dancing, music and singing and it promises to be an enjoyable afternoon as usual, with the opportunity to have a chat with old friends.


A Table Quiz in aid of At. Abbans Adamstown G.A.A. club will take place in The Horse and Hound Ballinaboola on the night of Friday 30th November at 9pm with many valuable prizes on offer. It's €40 per table of four.

A set of adult jerseys will be presented to the G.A.A. club on the same night. Support would be very much appreciated.


There will be a medal presentation and end of the year party for the under age section of St. Abban's Adamstown G.A.A. club in Raheen Community Centre on the night of Sunday 2nd December at 6.30pm and all are welcome. Under-12's must be accompanied by an adult. The Annual General Meeting of the local Coiste Na Nog section of the club will take place on the following night, Monday 3rd December at 7.30pm also in Raheen Community Centre, and all are welcome.

The Adamstown Ladies Football club held their Annual General Meeting last week in Newbawn hall and the following officers were elected for the year ahead: Chairman - Ted Bradley. Secretary - Karen Scallan. Treasurer - Michelle O'Brien. Assistant treasurer - Bridget "Babs" Kent. Child Officer - Carol Mernagh. Registrar - Catriona McCabe.

Managers positions are still to be finalised and anyone in a position to lend a hand should contact 085/8563972 as soon as possible. Teams to be entered include, under-10, under-12 , under-14, under-16, under-18.

Following a long discussion it was agreed to apply to be regarded from senior to intermediate football at adult level. Thanks to all supporters who followed the teams during the past year, and hopefully the same support will be there in the year ahead.


Newbawn Parish Council have just published their first edition of the Local Community Directory that will allow members of the local community who require service, or some work done, to employ known and reputable people.

The benefits of this approach are two fold, the promotion of local enterprise, and the enhancement of security arrangements recently put in place by the local Community Alert Programme. Over 30 businesses and services are in the directory ranging from Pet Pschychology to Babysitting, motoring to tennis, something for everyone.

Books are available at €2. each from Newbawn P.O., Foleys pub and takeaway, Ace motor factors, Kid Korner, and from parish council members.


A car boot sale will taker place in Raheen Community Centre on Saturday 24th November at 11am for which support would be much appreciated.

The main event in the Foley's Pub darts league last Wednesday night was won by Tom Kent who defeated Tom Kehoe in the final, while Helen Power defeated Mena Byrne in the ladies final.
