Monster Glenmore grave draw
South Kilkenny residents interested in the upkeep, care and maintenance of the graveyards of Kilbride, Ballygurrim, Kilcolm and Kilmakavogue in Glenmore have organised a monster draw which will take place in January.
A committee was formed in August with chairperson Harry Malone, secretary David Mackey, joint treasurers Paschal Power and Bridget Murray and PRO Fidelis Doherty, along with committee members Alan Daly, Mick Hayes, Eugene Foran, Richard Fitzgerald, Kathleen Ryan Power, Paul Mullally, Tom Ryan, Paddy O'Connor, Michael and Rita Roche, Mary O'Donohoe, Frankie Kirwan, Ger Doherty, Jim Grennan, Mary and Jim Dunne, Paul Harney, Nicholas Kelly and Jamie Doyle.
The committee have been kindly assisted by Heritage officer with Kilkenny County Council Dearbhala Ledwidge in their plans to maintain the historic graveyard, which has a place of affection in so many local resident's hearts. Cllr Doherty said: 'The primary function of the group will be to clean, maintain and where possible document the areas of the four historical rural graveyards of Glenmore. In order to attend to the body of works being undertaken it was decided to hold a once-off monster raffle with multiple valuable prizes being on offer and your support with this fundraiser would be much appreciated.'
In the coming few weeks committee members will be inviting households to purchase tickets at €5 a ticket and books of four at €20. Tickets may also be purchased from any of the committee. The monster draw will be taking place in The Glen Bar on Saturday, January 12 and the total value of all the prizes is €2,750.
