Grandparents' Day at Catherine McAuley NS took on an international dimension when a pupil Facetimed her grandmother in Poland so she could get in on the fun.

A school spokesperson said some grandparents couldn't make it on the day in person, but with the wonders of technology were able to participate through social media.

Zofia Macieszek's grandmother lives in Poland but she got a virtual tour of the school, as Zofia spoke to her on Facetime. 'Both were delighted. The benefits of modern technology! Grandparents play a vital role in the lives of many of our pupils. That special bond between grandchildren and their grandparents was very evident as the pupils showed their grandparents around their beautiful school.'

The children prepared for the visit by writing about their grandparents and drawing pictures of them. The day provided a great opportunity for the children to show their appreciation. It seems that grandparents are still great for sweets and treats!'
