Bridget celebrates her 80th in style
Coming from a family of 16, Bridget Hayden was never likely to be given a small birthday celebration.
The fact that the Rathnure woman was celebrating her 80th birthday in the best of health and in typical great form ensured a big crowd of family and friends attended her surprise party at the Riverbank House Hotel in Wexford.
Joined by her husband of 54 years, Michael, Bridget thought she was going for a meal when she was led into the function room and greeted with cheers and a rousing Happy Birthday song from her nine children, Eamonn, Sean, Tommy, Mark, Brigid, Paul, Philip, Linda and Michael Jnr and 13 grandchildren.
Everyone enjoyed food and cake, catching up after a busy few months.
Bridget said: 'It was rare to have everyone under the roof so I enjoyed the catch up with the gossip. It was a lovely surprise organised by my two daughters. It was very special to have so much family around. I come from a family 16 and I still have all my (own) family around me.'
As she enters her eighties Bridget has no plans to slow down.
From a busy farming household, Bridget, who is a former active ICA member, enjoys spending time with her children and grandchildren and has been treated to a trip to Portugal with Michael later in the year which she is looking forward to.
