The opening of a new barber shop in New Ross coincided with a fundraiser which raised a hair raising €750 for New Ross River Search & Rescue.

Five barbers volunteered their hair cutting expertise for an entire day, with all money raised going to the charity which is entirely funded through donations and the sale of items at its Woodbine Business Park shop.

Several local businesses contributed vouchers to the raffle including Screaming Canvas tattoo parlour, the cafe at Dermot Kehoe's and O'Brien's cafe, with hair products donated by Quay Street Barber's owner Ricky Fox.

Ricky and his staff chose the charity because of all the selfless work its volunteers do for local people and their families in the most difficult times in their lives.

With a theme of 'Keep Local to Support Local' the fundraiser was such a success Ricky plans to run it again in 2020.

'We'd like to thank everyone that made our charity day such a success. We're delighted to be able to give something back to such a worthy cause.'

Rochdale FC footballer Ryan Delaney was on hand to cut the ribbon and Ray Forte of Raymondo's take away donated food for the event.
