Ladies' GAA golf classic

St Mogue's Ladies' Club are holding a golf classic in Abbey Par three next Saturday, June 15. Teams of three cost €60, includes soup and sandwiches. Contact Aisling Wall at 086 8252631 for timesheet.

Late Nancy Barden

The death occurred last week of Anne (Nancy) Barden (née O'Connor) Lady-well, Fethard-on-Sea. Nancy was predeceased by her late husband Paddy and is sadly missed by her loving family Anne, Yvonne, Julie, Pat, Carmel, Rosie, Patrick, Laura and Larry, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, great grandchildren, brother, sisters, relatives and friends. Her funeral Mass took place in All Saint's Church, Templetown with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery. May she rest in peace.

On the Hook

This year's edition of the On the Hook magazine is currently on sale in local shops. Featuring 200 pages of articles and photos, with some fantastic old photos which were never previously published it is great value at just €12. Get your copy quick before they sell out.

Country Market

Fethard-on-Sea Country Market, now in its 23rd year, will be held this Saturday in St Mary's Hall 10.30 a.m. to midday. On sale will be home baking, preserves, chocolate, cheese, a large selection of crafts, cards, prints, children's dresses, knitwear, jewellery, veg, salad, eggs and plants.

Weekly lotto

There was no winner of last week's Club lotto jackpot of €4,500. Next week's jackpot stands at €4,600. The numbers drawn were 6, 12, 25 and 27. The club had one lucky-dip winner Tommy Power, who won €30.

Fethard St Mogue's GAA

The junior hurling team received a walkover from Clonard in the ACHL last Tuesday evening. The senior footballers were away to neighbours St James last Friday evening in the ACFL, full report in next week's paper. The senior hurlers play Geraldine O'Hanrahans in New Ross this evening at 8 p.m. in the semi-final of the Fox Cup

Cultural Trip

Saltmills St Kearns Community Group invites you along on a Community Cultural Trip, Departing Saltmills at 9 a.m. travelling to Newbridge Fabric and Leather Outlet via Graignamanagh for Morning Coffee. On to Carlow town for Lunch at own expense. Visiting the Visual Gallery following on to have a Guided tour of the Delta Sensory Gardens Concession e4 entry. Bus Fare subsidized. Pay on the day. Cúl Camps

Cúl Camp is once again back in Fethard this year, July 8 to July 12. Each day from 10 a.m. to 2.30 p.m. You can book online at kelloggsculcamps.gaa.ie.

Fethard split-the-pot

Congratulations to John Gilsenan, who won €75 in this week's split-the-pot (June 6). Envelopes for split-the-pot are available in the post office, Dillon's, The Wheelhouse, Droopy's, Molloy's, Neville's and the Tourist Office. Draw takes place every Thursday.

Progressive 45

The winners of the Progressive 45 card game in Colclough Hall last Sunday night were David Murphy. Siobhán Doyle and Georgie Foley. There was a tie for second place between Nicholas Doyle, Tony Murphy and Seán Colfer and Margaret Cullen, Jimmy Cullen and John Joe Murphy. The last game draw was won by Joan Fardy, Pat Whelan and Maureen Eustace. The raffle winners were Michael Kehoe, Brendan Colfer, Michael Murphy and Dermot Bassett.

Tintern Lecture Series

The next lecture in our William Marshal series will take place on August 20 when Bernard Browne will talk about the Legacy of the Normans. On September 3 Breda Lynch will discuss, Honouring a Vow, Marshall and Tintern Abbey. All are welcome and for further information please see our Facebook pages.

Community Hour

We meet every Tuesday evening from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. to help keep Saltmills St Kearns beautiful. Gloves, bags and tools provided. A little weeding and hoeing to keep the weeds at bay. Thanks to everyone for taking care of areas in the village and litter picking throughout the winter.

Creative Exchange

Drop in to Colclough Hall and meet people interested in art, crafts and exploring new projects on Fridays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. We are awaiting news on a Grant application to Creative Ireland and Wexford County Council for a new project on exploring Cultural Diversity in Saltmills St Kearns through print and ceramics.

We have completed a piece for the Pound with Mairead Stafford Ceramic Artist, which will be installed in due course. With thanks to Colclough Hall for its kind support and the Community Group for hosting the group.

Helen Blake Lifeboat Project

Wexford Local Development is proud to be assisting the Helen Blake Community Group with the construction of a replica of the Helen Blake Lifeboat in Bevel Woodworking School, Fethard-on-Sea.

The building of the boat will take approximately 18 months and the work will be carried out as part of a Tús training programme. This project will enable individuals to gain work experience and valuable skills under the supervision of local shipwright John Colfer, who counts the Dunbrody famine ship among the previous projects he has worked on.

Newbawn

Parish briefs

All people from the Newbawn area who can do so are requested to lend a hand in preparation for the annual field day that takes place on Sunday, July 14, in the Community Sportsground at Newbawn.

The annual patron will take place on the following weekend, Saturday the 20th in cemeteries at Faree at 2 p.m. and Courthoyle at 3 p.m.

On Sunday the 21st in the old and new cemeteries in Newbawn. Mass on the Saturday night will be as usual at 7.45 p.m. while the Mass for the dead on Sunday, July 21, will be at the later than usual time of midday.

Prayers for the dead in the old cemetery (Clorane) will commence immeditely after Mass and prayers and blessing of graves in the new cemetery adjacent to thechurch will begin at 1.30 p.m.

Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament continues in Newbawn church every Tuesday from 10 a.m. to midday. Exposition in Raheen church from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Wednesday mornings.

Exam time

We extend best wishes to all the boys and girls from our area who are sitting for their junior cert or leaving cert exams at the present time, and many happy days in the future.

Gaelic games

The local under-13 footballers have a home game against Oulart/Ballach tonight at 7.30 p.m. and they deserve support, So why not come along and enjoy.

The intermediate hurling team had a single point win on a score of 1-18 to 1-17 against Taghmon-Camross in a very closely fought exciting game last in the league, while the junior hurling team although playing well went under to Oylegate-Glenbrien on a final score of 1-18 to 1-12.

Church gate collections

The total amount collected so far in Newbawn for the Trócaire Lent Campaign is €871. If anyone wishes to donate direct to Trócaire they can do so by post to Trócaire Freepost NS244 Maynooth Co. Kildare. The recent gate collection at Newbawn church for Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus Ireland Wexford branch amounted to €165 for which the organisers are most grateful.

Without this support the branch would be unable to function and offer guidance and other support to their members. For more information and other inquiries Jimmy and Mary Furlong of Ballinaboola Newbawn may be contacted.

Free family field day

Raheen Family Resource Centre in conjunction with the Irish Heart Foundation are holding a free family fun day in the village of Raheen on this Saturday afternoon, June 15, commencing at 2 p.m.

There will be plenty of attractions for young and old and should be great fun, Everyone is welcome.

Classic Pop Concert

New Ross Singers will be performing a concert of classic pops of the 20th century in the Horse and Hound, Ballinaboola, on Tuesday, June 11, at 8 p.m. as a fundraiser for our wonderful and most deserving local Community Hospital. So it's Beatles, Bacharach, Beach Boys, Queen, Cohen, ABBA all the way. Special guests on the night will be the Nomads, well remembered and back for one night only. Tickets €15 at the door.

Annual Concert

The annual Variety Concert organised by Camross Hall Committee will be held on Sunday, September 29. Pencil the date in your diary as this is a popular event and one not to be missed. Watch this space.

GAA club news

Next up for the adult teams is ACL Hurling action on Friday night at home against St James with throw-in at 8 p.m. The match doubles up as a semi-final in the Foxe Cup.

Next Sunday the men will play the final round of the parish league at the centre. The adult squad has been split into four teams - Taghmon, Trinity, Old Boley and Camross and the competition concludes this weekend. Week four saw an excellent Taghmon team win two of their three of their football games and this kept them on top of the table ahead of Camross in second place. Taghmon are likely to take one final place but the other is still up for grabs. Why not come down and support your parish this Sunday. Details regarding the final and some fun activities for the kids on the day will be announced on the clubs social media sites during the week.

Cúl Camps registration is now available online. The camp takes place in Taghmon during the first week of July. The clubs Academy for players aged 4-7 is starting next Monday evening at 6.30 and will be on throughout the summer.

The lotto jackpot wasn't won last week so the jackpot increases to €13,100. The next draw takes place tonight at the community centre. Please encourage any family or friends living away from the area to support the draw through the new online Taghmon-Camross page on the KlubFunder website. Tickets are also available locally through all the usual channels.
