Around the districts: Clonroche-Poulpeasty, Graiguenamanagh, Rathnure, St Mullins, Tullogher-Rosbercon

Clonroche-Poulpeasty: Irish Dancing - There was great success for past two weekends in CRN Irish open championships for the Cloke-Donohoe School of Irish Dancing.

Congratulations to Kayla McDonald Katie French Sadhbh Cooper Muireann Cooper Aoibheann Cooper Bridin Quigley Phena Quigley Amy McManus Lisa Murphy Rachel Redmond. Muireann Cooper took the Irish Open Title under-10, her sister Sadhbh placed second under-eight. Both Phena, Amy and Rachel placed eighth in their respective competitions and finally Lisa Murphy took third place in a very high standard of dancing under-16. Preparations are now under way for the World Championships taking place in June.

Murphy School of Dance

Contgrats to Makayla Flynn won the all-Ireland Championship award under-13, Angela and Emma want to send huge congratulations to all the rest of the girls and the figure teams from Murphy School, who all took home prizes at both weekends.

We also like to congratulate Aibhe Kehoe, member of the Wexford Academy of Irish Dance, who was placed ninth in the under-10 Championship, fifth in her Mean Grad Award and won first with her team in 8-hand reel.

Clonroche Development Association the winner of the latest split-the-pot, drawn in the Cloch Ban, was John O'Leary Spout Road. The pot was €246 80% of the prize money stays local, envelopes available from local shops and businesses.

Community Games

The local area athletic trials will be held in Bree Field on Thursday, May 23, at 6 p.m. This sports is open to all children from preschool to under-16. Please contact area Sec at 087 4151350 for further details or see school and shop notice boards.

Bree AC News

Training for Bree AC takes place on Mondays and Wednesdays at 7 p.m. in Ballyhogue GAA Grounds. Little Athletics for four to eight years has resumed on Mondays only in the top field from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Well done to all the local athletes on their performances in the recent Mr Oil Co Track and Field Championships. The next outing for the club will be the Leinster Relay Championships in Leixlip on May 26.

The Citizens Information office in main street Graignamanagh is open Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays 10;30 a.m. to 12;30 p.m., Providing a free private and confidently information service available to all.

Tidy Towns Jackpot

This week's results are: first prize - Anthony O'Neill €251, second prize - Ann Kavanagh - €50, third Prize - Jim Costello - €25. Money raised through the jackpot will be used to keep the town looking well all year round. Draw takes place every Thursday in the Abbey Centre from approximately 4 p.m. to 4.30 p.m.

Bottle Bank relocation

The bottle bank has being relocated from the local fair green, to the Aldi car park since April 4 and its welcomed by all residents in the locality,

Golden Jubilee

The Parish Pastoral Council are preparing to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of Fr Byrne on Sunday, July 7, This will coincide with his retirement after 22 years as our parish priest, Arrangements have been made for a Mass at three o'clock for all parishioners, which will be con-celebrated with Bishop Denis Nulty. Refreshments will be provided by the Abbey Hall committee after the Mass in the hall, to which everyone is invited.

Congratulations to local Jockey Danny Sheehy after having Three winners at Gowran Park on Sunday, May 5, and Wednesday, May 8, and to Shane Foley, who had some winners at Gowran also, Well Guys.

Congratulations to all the children in second class on making their First Communion last weekend. We would like to thank the pupils who sang in the choir and the teachers and Fr Broaders for all the preparation on this lovely day.

Social Dance

There will be a dance in Rathnure hall on Friday, May 24, at 10 p.m. Proceeds are in aid of Rathnure Toddler Group and Rathnure National School. Refreshments will be served. Music by Michael Collins. Admission: €10 and door prizes on the night. Tickets are available through the parents' association and Rathnure National School Office. Your support would be very much appreciated. Also donations of home baked goods to the parish hall on the night would be greatly received.

St Anne's GAA Club

Well done to all participants, organisers and helpers involved with last Sundays enjoyable and successful Adventure Race.

Tullogher-Rosbercon

Community Alert

The annual subscription to the parish alert system is now due. Committee members will be calling to households in the coming week in order to collect the sub of €10. The Text Alert System has been a great success with over 420 households in the parish receiving texts in the last year which in many cases prevented robberies and potential damage to properties. Anyone no yet signed up can do so by phoning the text alert line which is 083 1999585.

Historical Society

The South Kilkenny Historical Society members are going on a site seeing coach tour this coming Saturday, May 18, The tour will take in Athy Heritage Centre and Shackleton Museum, Duckett's Grove, and Huntingdon Castle. All in cost which includes coach fare, entrance and tour guide fees as well as an evening meal in Carlow. Eucharistic Ministers

At the 11 a.m. Mass in the Church of the Assumption on Sunday, May 19, 10, some new and some being re-commissioned Eucharistic Ministers will be installed for the period 2019/2022. They are, Mary Conway, Catherine Lyng, Sr Margaret Quinn, Anne O'Sullivan, Liz Power, Kevin Cunningham, Moira Murphy, Ellen Howlett, Maureen Cotterell and Paddy Gaule. The parish are very grateful to all our Eucharistic Ministers for their service to our community.

GAA News

It was another good weekend for Tullogher-Rosbercon teams in various Kilkenny competitions. In the Minor Hurling League, the locals had a two-point win over Graigue/Ballycallan on a score line of 2-12 to 1-13. The Junior B team kept up the good work beating Mullinavat 1-16 to 0-11 on the latter's home pitch. Then in the Duggan Steel under-15 hurling league there was another good win this time over Danesfort the final score here being T/R 3-11, Danesfort 2-7. Club man, Colman O'Sullivan, played a key role in the Leinster Minor Hurling Championship when he helped Kilkenny to a 3-13 to 2-15 victory over Wexford.

Local Deaths

The death occurred after a long illness of Patrick (Pat) Power from Forristalstown. A well-known and popular figure in the area many will recall meeting him on his many walks around the Pink Rock. He was laid to rest in Glenmore Cemetery on Wednesday last after 11 o'clock Requiem Mass. Sincere sympathy goes to his wife, Angela, and the extended family in their sad bereavement.

Then we had the sudden death of Monsignor James Walsh from Ballagh, Knoctopher the retired Pastor of St Christopher's and St Cypriot's churches in San Jose, California. He often celebrated Mass here in St David's Church Mullinarrigle and in the Parish Church in Rosbercon. Monsignor Walsh had parish connections being related to the Gaule family from Listerlin. He was buried in Calvary Cemetery Hugginstown on Wednesday last, May 8.
