Clonroche-Poulpeasty: Camross Drama Group - Camross Drama Group will present the classic JB Keane play 'The Year of the Hiker 'in Clonroche Hall on Saturday and Sunday, February 8 and 9.

The play relates tale of the 'Hiker Lacey' who returns home to his family whom he walked out on 20 years. Through reactions to his homecoming by his family, we discover why he left, what kept him away and why he came home.

This truly Keane classic, in the mold of the Field, Sharon's Grave, Big Maggie and Sieve will be entertainment at its best. Commencing at 8 p.m.,with an Admission of 10.00.

Donard NS Open Night

Parents of incoming pupils for September 2020 are invited to our Open Night on Wednesday, February 5, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Come and meet the staff and view the facilities in our school.

Poulpeasty Women's Group

A 'Five Ways to Wellbeing Programme' is starting in Poulpeasty Hall on third of Feburary at 7.30. These 'Five ways to Wellbeing' have been used worldwide by both young and old to help people take action to improve their wellbeing. The five ways to well-being are to connect, be active, Take notice, keep learning, and give. The programme encompasses all of these and will be fun and interesting to all who attend. Members free, non-members €10 for the programme. New members welcome. Membership is €20.

Templeudigan HBC held a very successful Racquetball Singles tournament under the stewardship of our excellent chairman Micheál O'Neill, who ran the competition so efficiently. The following were successful.

Tidy Towns jackpot

This week's results are first prize - Eamon Doyle - €338, second prize - Jake Roche, third prize - Mina Doran - €25. Money raised through Tidy Town's jackpot will be used to keep the town looking well all year round. Draw takes place every Thursday in the CE Office at between 4 p.m. and 4.30 p.m.

Historical talk

The next presentation from Graiguenamanagh Historical Society will be: 'Hello Delia Murphy 'which is a show devised and performed by Delia's niece, Carmen Cullen at which she will give a talk and sing Delia's songs and will be accompanied by musician Gerry Anderson.

It will be held in the library on Friday, February 7, at 8 p.m.

Delia Murphy Kiernan (February 16, 1902 - February 11, 1971) was a singer and collector of ballads. She recorded several 78 rpm records in the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s including 'The Spinning Wheel 'Three Lovely Lassies form Bannon ' 'If I Were a Blackbird 'and 'The Moonshiner 'and in 1962 she recorded her only LP, 'The Queen of Connemara'.

Throughout her life Delia balanced writing, recording and performing her songs with a hectic life as the wife of one of Ireland's most celebrated ambassadors TJ Kiernan. Her best epitaph comes from a quote from Liam Clancy 'Her main contribution was that she made us feel that we could respectably sing our own songs'.

St Fiacre's pilgrimage

The annual Pilgrim in honor of St Fiacre takes place at his sixth century church ruins and Holy Well at Ulllard Graignamanag on Saturday, February 8.

GAA News

The Tullogher-Rosbercon Senior footballers made a winning start to their first venture in the Kilkenny Senior Championship after many years absence. Playing on home ground they were pitted against the highly rated Railyard from Castlecomer. After an entertaining game of football, the locals came out on top on the score line of 1-9 to 1-8.

Having been relegated from the Intermediate Hurling grade last year and now in junior ranks, they will face the Black and Whites in the first round of the Kilkenny League/Championship.
