Adamstown - Bingo in Raheen FRC: Raheen FRC is hosting a Coffee Break and bingo in Adamstown Community Centre on Tuesday, January 22, from 10.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. Cost is €5 with tea or coffee and Toast included. Everyone welcome to come along.

Line Dancing

Line Dancing classes in Cushinstown old school every Monday morning 10.30 a.m. This dancing is great way to get and stay fit while losing weight. Come along and see for yourself. Also every Tuesday and Thursday night in Parish Hall Rosbercon New Ross Beginners 7 p.m. For further info on any of these classes please ring Sarah at 087 9792483.

The AGM of Adamstown Community Centre will take place on Wednesday, January 16, at 8 p.m.

Cards

The weekly '30' Card Game continues in the community centre this Friday, January 18, at 9 p.m. Thanks to the ladies for the tea last week. Catering on the night will be: Ann McDonald, Una McDonald and Sinéad O'Gorman. Catering on the 25th will be Ellen Furlong, Bridget Colfer and Margaret Furlong. Proceeds going to parish funds.

Sympathy

Our deepest sympathy to the family of the late Catherine (Kitty) Wickham, Templenacrow, who died on Monday, December 24. Her funeral Mass was celebrated in St John Paul the Second Church, Raheen on Thursday, December 27, with burial afterwards in Adamstown Cemetery. May her gentle soul rest in peace.

Our sympathy also to Ian Cullen and family, Barrack's Road and Pádraig O'Gorman and family, Kellystown on the death of Martin Ryan, Forrest, Barntown (formerly Old Boley, Taghmon). Also sympathy to his sons, daughters and extended family. His funeral Mass was celebrated in St Lawrence's Church, Glynn on New Year's Day with burial in the adjoining cemetery. May he rest in peace.

The winning numbers in the first lotto draw for 2019 were 4, 19, 22 and 23. There was no jackpot winner. The following four players matched three numbers and got €50 each. Oisin Redmond, Brocurra, Jake Cadogan c/o Brad Óg's, John Morrissey, Rathsilla and Kathleen Flood, Oldcourt. The next draw takes place in the community centre on January 18 for a jackpot of €14,500

Cloughbawn GAA lotto

Numbers drawn at the most recent lotto held on January 5 were 2, 4, 11 and 30 Kieran Cowman, Ballindoney and Mary Tector, Clonroche matched three numbers, jackpot still stands at 10,000. Next draw will be held in the Boro Inn on January 19 and the Yellow group are on duty, J & J Hendrick, J & S Flynn and M Langton.

Split-the-pot

The latest winner from split-the-pot was Kathleen Delaney, Courtnacuddy the pot was €314 remember all funds are used locally and envelopes can be bought in any of the local shops and businesses.

Cloughbawn Parish Party

Sunday, January 20, at 1 p.m. is designated for one of the highlights of the social calendar the Parish Party. With over 100 guests at last year's' event this year promises to surpass even that. An opportunity for social interaction amounts old friends and acquaintances with good food and an evening's entertainment is something to look forward too and not to be missed.

Sympathy

We would like to extend sympathy to the Buckley and Carton Families on the recent passing of their mother Chrissie Buckley eight Sli an Uisce, Clonroche, Daughter of the late Jack and Mary Ellen Leacy, Knockmarshall. Beloved mother of James, John, Jackie, Elaine, Roland, Catriona and Carol. Sister of Marie, Sadie, Mag and Bud. Sadly missed by her adoring grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. May She Rest In Peace.

Historical talk

The next Graigurenamanagh Historical Society talk will be' The story of Duiske Abbey 'and will be given by our own gifted historian and author Colm Walsh. It will be held in the local library on Friday, January 25, at 8 p.m.

In this talk Colm will deal with the history of this Venerable 800 years old Abbey..Included in his talk will be information on its foundation in 1204 when the Norman Cistercians from Stanley Abbey in Wiltshire, at the invitation of William Marshal earl of Pembroke, founded Duiske Abbey and some details of the famous quarrel with Jerpoint Abbey. He will discuss what happened after the dissolution of the abbey in 1536 and then to its first Restoration in 1812 followed by the Restoration and Grand opening on June 1, 1980.

Duiske Abbey is the Catholic parish church in the town of Graiguenamanagh and has served its people as a continuous place of Catholic worship for over 800 years.

The numbers drawn were 11, 19, 27 and 29 and there was no winner. next week's jackpot stands at €10,000, Reserve jackpot €2,700. The citizens information office in main street Graignamanagh is open Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 10.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m., Providing a free private and confidently information service available to all.

Tidy Towns jackpot

This week's results are first prize - Kathleen Malone - €202, second prize - Rose Dunne - €50, third Prize - Edward Hayden - €25. Money raised through the Tidy Towns jackpot will be used to keep the town looking well all year round. Draw takes place every Thursday in the Abbey Centre at approximately 4 p.m.

Craft club

Inistioge Craft Club continues in Cois Abhainn from 7.30 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. every Thursday evening. Bring along your craft and have a chat. Beginners and advanced are all very welcome. Grandparents Day

Grandparents Day will be held at the school on February 1 with Mass at 1 p.m. followed by a visit to the classrooms and refreshments at the school. If Grandparents are unable to attend, other family members are welcome.

Talk on children's anxiety

Carina McEvoy, author of the children's book 'Sometimes I worry…how about you?' will hold a talk on children's anxiety in Rathnure NS on Thursday, January 17, at 7 p.m. Carina will have copies of her book and the parents support book on sale on the night. All are very welcome to come and listen to Carina and ask her questions and we will have a cup of tea afterwards.

GAA Club lotto

The numbers drawn last Tuesday were 1, 2, 19 and 25. There was no jackpot winner. Christina White, Grange Upper and Mary Power, Borris were the two match-three winners who won €100 each. Jackpot this week: €8,600.

Tullogher-Rosbercon

Ploughing Match

The annual ploughing match under the auspices of the Tullogher/Glenmore Club will be held on lands of the Grennan family at Ballyreddy. Pre-Entry only, which must be submitted before Wednesday, January 23. Full details of same can be had by phoning Nichols at 087 2567866 or Edward at 087 9240019.

St Canice's National School

Anyone interested in enrolling their child for the junior infants classes beginning in August/September 2019 are invited to apply for an application form to St Canice's National School. You can do by calling to the school or alternately phoning them at 051 422813. Cut-off date for receiving the completed forms is Friday, February 6.

Wedding Bells

Congratulations and best wishes go to Marie Ryan of Listerlin and Jamie Fitzpatrick of Lukeswell, Mullinavat, who were married on December 31, 2018. The marriage ceremony took place in St David's Church Listerlin and the parish community wish the pair a long and rewarding life together.

Christmas Concert

A very enjoyable Christmas Concert was held in St David's Church Listerlin in December. Organised by the Listerlin Church Choir and Listerlin school children it featured some fine singing, music, a raffle and voluntary donations which raised €221 which was donated to the Parish Building Fund. Well done to Marie, Molly, Sarah, Linda and Stephanie, who looked after the sale of the raffle tickets.

Dates for Your Diary

The Sacrament of Confirmation will be held in the Church of the Assumption Rosbercon on Friday, March 29, with Bishop Dermot Farrell of Ossory presiding. First Eucharist in Rosbercon is on Saturday, May 4, and in Listerlin on Saturday, May 18.
