There were plenty of smiles at Donohoe's Skoda in Enniscorthy as a young man from Piercestown picked up his brand new Skoda Fabia Monte Carlo which was won in this year's Model County Draw.

Philip McDermott of Hayestown, Piercestown, was over the moon to find out he was the lucky winner of the top prize of a car for the month of May.

This year's draw sees three cars given away - a Ford from Boland's for April, a Skoda from Donohoe's in May and a Mazda from Trinity Motors for June.

Coincidentally, Piercestown seems to be somewhat of a lucky spot for the huge fundraising draw as the winner of April's car also came from the area, resulting in huge celebrations at the St Martin's Club.

Aidan O'Leary and Austin Codd from Donohoe's were delighted to hand over the keys to Philip and wish him many years of happy motoring.

Over 50 prizes were up for grabs in this year's draw ranging from the cars and vouchers for hotel breaks, shopping, heating oil and all other manner of items, to Wexford GAA season tickets and cash vouchers for €150.

Wexford GAA Secretary Margaret Doyle says that the draw continues to be a vital fundraiser for Wexford GAA.

'Ticket sales are actually up this year,' she said. 'We've been running the draw for 26 years and obviously during the recession, things would have slowed down a bit, but it seems the interest in it is on the rise again.'

Margaret congratulated Philip and all the other winners thus far and said that the draw for the June car was imminent and the winner would be announced in the coming days.
