Two men have appeared in court following an incident which occurred near Dundalk town centre in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Troy Chiduza (18), College Manor, Hoey’s Lane, and Ayobimi Lawal (18), Woodville Manor, Tom Bellew Avenue, Dundalk, are each accused of assaulting a male causing him harm at Park Street on 20 November last.

On Monday in the district court, a garda gave evidence of arresting Mr Chiduza at 12.55am on 20 November and subsequently charging him at 2.10pm that day. He replied, ‘I understand the charges’, after caution.

There was no garda objection to conditional bail.

Judge McKiernan remanded the defendant on bail to 18 January for DPP directions.

He must reside at his stated address, observe a curfew between 11pm and 6am, stay out of Park Street between 9pm and 7am, have no contact with the co-accused, and be available for contact by mobile phone.

Legal aid was granted.

Details of Mr Lawal’s arrest, charge and caution were given by way of schedule with similar bail conditions attached.

He was remanded on bail to 18 January for DPP directions.
