A Dundalk National Lottery millionaire waited two months to collect their €1 million prize “to let the win sink in’.
The local lotto player claimed their Lotto Plus 1 top prize worth an incredible €1 million this week.
The winner, who wishes to remain private, spoke of how they felt when they found out they’d won the life-changing prize: “I was in complete shock, you always hope you’re going to win big but you never think it’s actually going to be you!”, said the excited winner.
“I waited two months to claim the prize because I really wanted to let the win sink in and come to terms with it. I didn’t want to rush out spending it all! I want to keep life as normal as possible going forward.”
When asked what they might spend their winnings on, the winner replied: “I’m looking forward to going on more holidays and seeing a bit more of the world. I also might get some nicer presents for the family this Christmas!”
The Louth player purchased their winning Lotto Plus 1 ticket worth €1,000,000 in Sloane's newsagents, on Avenue Road in Dundalk, where there had been huge celebrations this Autumn.
The shop was opened by Peter and Anne Sloan over 55 years ago and since then it has become a landmark on the Avenue Road. Nowadays they are supported by their children Margaret, Mary, Peter and Paul who all work in the family business.
Daughter, Margaret was delighted to learn that one of their customers had become an overnight millionaire buying a normal play ticket in their shop.
“This is literally a dream come true for our family and for the store,” she said. “The excitement that we as a family had at selling the winning ticket was an incredible feeling, you’d swear we won the prize ourselves!
"It really is such a community store and we know each and every one of our customers who come through the door. It is a fantastic community and we are just thrilled that one of those families is €1 million euro richer. To have played a part in that life-changing win is just fantastic.”
