The event will kick start on Sunday 25th September in Santiago Spain with a volunteer from Duleek participating in a 100kms Camino walk to be completed in just five days. Other volunteers will begin their walk, cycle or run at the same time.

“We are delighted the following local businesses, Tarstone, Blacktop Macadam, Nanny’s Of Duleek, Anthony Walsh Painting and Decorating, Whearty Bros and Sons Ltd Building Contractors, Dolly Bar Slane, Cloghertown Sand and Gravel, John Shiels Coach Hire and Blue Star Gem LTD have come on board to be the main sponsors of the event. Without their support this very important event could not be possible,” says Thomas.

“Last year was our first 1,000kms Team Challenge which was a huge success. The team knocked up a staggering 2,490kms and the funds gathered allowed us to purchase tents, sleeping bags, various clothing and supplies for the homeless throughout the year. It allowed us to donate to other voluntary charities in Dublin and further afield along with supporting local organisations Meath Food Bank, Drogheda Cares for the Homeless and Drogheda Women’s Refuge”.

They were also in a position to purchase and donate Easter eggs to homeless children in emergency accommodation and to elderly in local nursing homes.

“Hopefully this year’s event will also be a success. We will be donating to the homeless but we will also be making donations to Duleek Senior Citizens and again to Drogheda Cares for the Homeless,” he adds. “ All going well other local voluntary organisations will also benefit”.
