The Dundalk Sub Aqua Search & Rescue Club is one of thirty-five community groups, sports clubs and organisations from all over Ireland who have made it to the national finals of the National Lottery Good Causes Awards. The group will now proceed to compete in the Sport category of the Awards.

Dundalk Sub Aqua Club, which celebrated its 20th anniversary last year, is  one of the largest diving clubs in Ireland and are a valuable resource in local search and rescue operations. The SAR unit is a voluntary organisation which supports and collaborates with the State’s emergency services in the search, rescue and recovery of persons lost or in danger in marine or inland waters environments.

The club were able to buy a new Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB) thanks to the a National Lottery funded sports capital grant which allows the SAR to operate in more demanding sea conditions.

The Good Causes Awards honour the inspiring work and achievements of thousands of projects, clubs and individuals from all over Ireland who, with the help of National Lottery Good Causes funding, have had an extraordinary impact on their local communities. Nearly 30 cent in every €1 spent on National Lottery games goes back to Good Causes all over the country.
