It was a “weekend to remember” for the Fatima community, with a series of hugely successful events making this a remarkable celebration of the the last seventy years in one of Dundalk’s oldest estates.
Ten months of planning resulted in “ an absolutely spectacular show of support for the celebration,” said the dedicated committee who has planned a four day long commemoration over the Bank Holiday weekend.
The weekend began with a remembrance mass, which was a “emotional event” remembering the long standing members of the Fatima community, and those who have sadly passed.
Festivities kicked off with a rig set up in the estate featuring live music, which despite the mixed weather drew large crowds, singing and dancing in the rain.
The sports day was one of the most popular events throughout the weekend, bringing children from across the area together to take part.
The 70th anniversary celebrations culminated in a sold out reunion night in the Clan na Gael GFC, which saw people with Fatima connections from across the world travel home to honour the much loved estate.
A montage of the more than 500 photographs and home videos shared with the committee over the last ten months. by residents past and present, was shown on the night.
“Thanks to everyone for the support and who showed up to be with us,” said the committee “and to all you lovely people who came out in the rain to be with us!”
“We hope it was a weekend to remember!”
