Minor success

Congratulations to the Slane minor football team who defeated Dunboyne to win the FT final in Bohermeen. Slane trailed 0-2 to 1-7 at half-time but staged a great second half revival to win 2-10 to 1-10. After the match Meath minor chairman Ray Finnegan presented the trophy to winning captain Ethan Harding.

Gardening morning

The Francis Ledwidge committee is looking for volunteers to lend a hand with the garden at the museum this coming Saturday, May 13th from 10am to 1pm. Last year the garden was redesigned by Rosie Maye from the Insomniac Gardener who did an amazing job and the committee want to keep the garden looking its best. If you have an hour to spare come along, it would be great to get some extra help with weeding and planting. Rosie Maye will be there to help and guide everyone along on the day and you might even pick up some gardening tips as well.

Blotto results

Numbers drawn in the Slane GFC Blotto on May 3rd were 6, 11, 15, 16. There was no winner and the jackpot is now €3375. The spot prize winners were Imelda Berrill, Matthew Tully, Mark O’Donnell, Brian Benalli.

The winner of the 50/50 draw was Andrew McCann who scoped the €550 prize. You can get tickets for the next 50/50 draw on Clubforce, in local shops and at the bingo in Toddy Harding Park on a Wednesday evening.

Coffee morning

A coffee morning in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland takes place in Slane Parochial Hall this Sunday May 14th from 10am - 2pm. Come along and enjoy a cuppa and at the same time support a very worthy cause. There will be plenty of tea and cakes, a brick-a-brac table and raffle prizes. Funds raised on the day will go to the Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland.

Tidy Towns Draw

The Slane Tidy Towns monthly draw for April took place in Lynch’s Bar and the winners were - €100 Helen Kearns, €60 Helen Sexton, €50 Colette McDonnell, €40 Billy McMac, €30 Annette Fitzpatrick. Thanks to everyone for their support and the next draw takes place on the last Friday of May in Boyles.

Rossin Rovers Summer Camp

Rossin Rovers Soccer Club FAI Football Camp takes place at their grounds Monknewtown (C15 N24H) from July 10th to 14th, and registration is now open. Come and join the fun this summer and train like a pro. The camp is for boys and girls six to 14 years, from Monday to Friday 10am - 1pm.

Each child receives an official camp top, backpack and ball. Booking details are on the club Facebook page.

Vikings are coming

The Viking Festival returns to Slane Castle on Saturday May 20th and Sunday May 21st. Visitors to the camp can try archery and hear Skalds tell Viking sagas. Artisans will have their handcrafted goods on display and for sale. Participate in children’s treasure hunts, story telling and viking style face painting, see fierce warriors do battle to be Irish champion. There is something for all the family. Joker Draw

There is big money to be won in the Joker Draw which raises funds for the St Patrick’s Day Parade in the village. It takes place in Lynch’s Bar every Sunday evening and you can get your envelopes in any business in the village. Envelopes are €3 for one week and €20 for seven weeks.

Coerver coaching camp

Slane Wanderers Soccer Club is hosting a Coerver Coaching Summer Camp at the Wheatfield from July 17th to 21st from 10am to 1pm each day for boys and girls seven to 13 years. Online booking is now open and can be made by following the link on the club Facebook page.

Little Wanderers for boys and girls aged four to six has returned on Tuesday evenings at 6.30pm in Wheatfield Park.

Blessing of the Graves

The Blessing of the Graves take place in Monknewtown, Knowth, Dowth and Fennor, starting at 3pm on Sunday, August 13th. The Blessing of the Graves on the Hill of Slane and St Erc’s Cemetery is the following Sunday, August 20th, starting at 2.30pm.

Fundamentals

Fundamentals for children under the age of six looking to play football, boost their social development, learn new skills and meet new friends, has started up at Slane GFC in Toddy Harding Park and takes place on Thursday evenings from 6.30 to 7.30pm. Car show

ALMC Motor Club are holding a Car Show with hundreds of classic and collectable vehicles taking part at Slane Castle on Sunday August 27th from 11am - 5pm. There will be many static displays to see as well as a food arena. Vehicles include saloons, sports, rally cars, race cars, American, commercial, military, karts, and classic motorcycles. A team of judges will be in attendance to select the winners with an awards ceremony taking place in the arena around 3.30pm. There will be children’s entertainment throughout the day. Slane Castle will be putting on a range of hot food options and the cafe will be open throughout the show. You can also browse the shopping stalls with traders putting on a wide range of items. Golf Classic

Slane Community Centre are holding their annual Golf Classic at Ashbourne Golf Club on Friday, May 26th. The organising committee is looking for teams and sponsors for this great event. A team of four is €400 and includes snack on the ninth hole and dinner in the clubhouse. Prizes for first and second placed teams and longest drive and nearest the pin. Walking group

The Slane Striders Walking Group meet each Tuesday evening at 7.30pm for walks around the Slane/Boyne Valley area. They also meet on Thursday mornings at 10.30am. New members always welcome. For further information contact Lucy Kennedy on 0874649876.

Couch to 5k

Rathkenny Athletic Club are considering hosting a Couch to 5k programme again this year to coincide with their annual road race on August 18th. If there is enough interest the Couch to 5k will commence in mid June. If you never ran before and are thinking of taking it up or maybe you are a lapsed runner or just want to increase your daily steps then this programme will be ideal. Parish News

First Holy Communion will be celebrated on this Saturday 13th of May for the children in our parish.

Corpus Christi / Cemetery Sunday is Sunday June 11th. There will be an outdoor mass with eucharistic procession and blessing of the graves. Please make sure to spread the world to family and friends.

We ask parishioners to return Trócaire boxes as soon as possible. Many thanks to all for their great support of this cause

We are currently looking for more people to collect at our Weekend Masses 7.30pm Saturday and 8.30am and 11am Mass. It is difficult if there are no people to collect and if there is a big congregation for one person to collect. If you can assist with this, can you please drop into Sandra our Sacristan to give your name. Your help and support is greatly appreciated. Many hands make light work!

Glen Emmets Summer Camp

The ever-successful Glen Emmets Summer Camp is back again this year. This year they will be hosting two camps in Cusack Park....with the Glen Emmets GPO Gerry Malone. Week One: 3-7th July and Week Two: 7-11 August. The camps will be on from 10am-2.30pm each day and is aimed at ages 6-12yrs. The Glen Emmets camp is always fun action packed with multi-sports and costs just €50 per week (5 days) but you would need to book early as places are limited. Lotto Results

The Glen Emmets Lotto draw sponsored by The Morning Star took place on Tuesday May 2nd and the result is as follows: Grand Prize €10,000 with no winner. The numbers drawn were 1,3,15 & 25, so until the Grand Prize draw of €10,000 is won there will now be 2 Lotto Draws as the pot of €10,000 is capped. Everyone who buys 1 ticket will be entered into a second draw which kicked off last week. There was no winner of the €2,300, the numbers drawn for that prize 12, 22, 25 & 32. Glen Emmets Pre-Loved Football Boots

Has your son or daughter grown out of their new boots since last season & they are still in good condition? Glen Emmet’s parents can donate outgrown boots which are clean and in good condition to another parent. The more pairs of boots that are posted, the more children we can help out. We are running this initiative to help out members of our club. So, dig out those boots and let them play ball again. Post a photo in the comments section on the facebook page (with size) If someone is interested in them all they have to do is comment on the photo – couldn’t be simpler. There will also be a basket inside the door of the clubrooms for people to drop off.

Tullyallen Men’s Shed

Our Men’s Shed is going from strength to strength since they formed in 2016. There are great numbers in attendance, and they would love to see new members coming on board. They have a recreation area, plenty of craic, chat, tea, coffee refreshments etc. pool, cards, darts, rings, Chess etc. Workshop, storage / paint shed, Polycarbonate Tunnel, and outings arranged. They are open on Tuesday and Friday mornings from 10am. Wednesday is Bowls Day from 10am. Workshop & Polycarbonate Tunnel all mornings. Why not pop along and see what it is all about.

Glen Emmets Nursery

The Glen Emmets Nursery has resumed on Saturdays 10.30 on the Astro pitch. This is for children born in 2017 or 2018 and is a great introduction to GAA for the little ones. All the children have to bring with them is water.

Rossin Rovers

Booking has now opened for Rossin Rovers AFC Summer camp. This camp is on 10th July to 14th July at their pitch in Monknewtown, Slane, Monday to Friday – 10am to 1pm and is aimed at boys and girls aged 6 to 14 years. Bookings are online, click on faifootballcamps.ie and they will point you in the right direction.

Marie Keating Mobile Unit

Tullyallen Pharmacy they are delighted to announce the return of the Marie Keating Foundation Mobile Unit. The Marie Keating mobile unit will be outside Tullyallen Pharmacy on the 18th of May from 10:30 to 3pm. The mobile information units are stocked with take-home information leaflets and packs on various cancers. The Marie Keating Foundation nurses can talk to people in a private area on board the unit about any concerns that they may have about cancer, either for themselves or for someone else such as a family member or friends. But they strongly advise that if you have any immediate or pressing concerns to contact your GP rather than waiting.
