Green Initiatives
The Parish Finance Committee has been examining the possibility of using Solar Power in the Parish. It will now become a reality as Solar Panels will be installed behind the Parochial House which will supply Solar Power to both the Parochial House and the Church of the Immaculate Conception. The work will be undertaken by Lennon Solar and is expected to begin in the next few days. While staying with all matters green, well done to the 6th Class children from both Parish Schools who have embraced an Irish Bishops “Greening Initiative” which will see them involved in a project to plant wildflower seeds on Parish grounds. Ground to the side of both Parish Churches has been set aside for this purpose with plaques to identify them. Certainly this will enhance the beauty of the Church grounds. There will also be resurfacing of the car park at the Church of the Immaculate Conception over the Summer months and parking spaces will be lined out.
Funding for Footpath Extension
Funding is available that will result in the extension of the footpath at Strand Road, Termonfeckin. It is understood that €255,000 has been awarded from the Community Recognition Fund to extend the footpath. The Community Recognition Fund is a major initiative designed to specifically support communities across Ireland that are hosting people from Ukraine and other countries. According to local Labour Cllr. Michelle Hall who has welcomed the funding, it has been allocated across all local authorities based on the number of new arrivals located there. Cllr Hall says the Seapoint Footpath was the first project she started as a Councillor and hopefully enough funding now will see it completed for accessibility for pedestrians, buggies and wheelchair users to Seapoint Beach.

Naturally there was big excitement in the build up to the Leinster Final as Senior Louth players Paul Matthews and Bevan Duffy had a meet and greet at Pairc Naomh Feichin giving many young players the chance to wish them well for what was described as an historic occasion. With Dublin winning out and maybe it was a hard ask, can we just congratulate the Louth team on their endeavours this year and what is to come and to Mickey Harte for what he has done for County Football. The County Colours were certainly out in force at Scoil Mhuire gan Smal, Sandpit given that Paul Matthews is a former pupil and he also took time to visit the School. There were plenty of football fixtures with the Senior Men getting a victory of Sean O’Mahony’s. The Senior Ladies had a draw against St. Mochtas. The U15 Boys enjoyed a win over Glen Emmets while there was disappointment for the U14 girls against a O’Raghallaighs/Oliver Plunketts combination team. The U11 team took on near neighbours Dreadnots, the U8 Girls got a chance to display their skills in a Blitz hosted by St. Joseph’s while the U10 Boys held their own Blitz and gave a great display of skill against a number of other County Clubs. There was plenty of Hurling action with St. Fechin’s winning against Carrickmacross Emmets Hurling in the Tain Og Hurling League. The U15 Hurlers won the Louth Feile against Knockbridge and now will represent Louth in the National Feile next month. The adult Hurlers also had a win against Knockbridge in the Colm Geary League. Well done to the U9 Hurlers who got to show off their skills in a Blitz hosted by St. Joseph’s and gave a great account of themselves against a number of teams. In Camogie there were wins for the U12 Camogs against Blackrock/Na Piarsaigh and Castleblayney. Well done to the Louth U14 Camogie team who have made it 3 wins out of 3 against Westmeath, Wicklow and Laois.
