Sincere Sympathy

Sincere Sympathy to Bernadette Mc Donnell and Family and to all who are bereaved by the recent passing of Donal Mc Donnell RIP., ‘Hillside’ Ardee Street, Collon. You are in our thoughts and prayers at this time. Ar dheis De go raibh anam dilis. Donal had just turned 90 a short time before his passing. A kind and thoughtful gentleman, Donal attended the Tir na N-Og Active Retirement Group in Teach Raithneach for many years, and contributed handsomely to its activities. He will be fondly remembered and sadly missed around Collon and further afield.

Broomfield Walking Group

Broomfield Residents Walking Group continue their Tuesday evening walks from 7pm. All welcome. Sunday walks continue all year round at 11am. The Monastery Grounds, Collon, Llittlewood, Slane and Oldbridge on alternate weeks. For further information contact Josie 086 4458108

Active Ageing Event

The Active Ageing Event held on Friday 5th May last was disappointing, with a very poor attendance on the night. The CFR Certificates and May Bush Prizes were presented at the event.

Cardiac First Responders

The following Community Members were presented with their CFR Certificates recently: Colm Dillon, Amanda Devin, Breege Drew, Roisin Roche, Josephine Sullivan, Gerard Weldon, Robin Bellew, Grainne Weldon, Aideen Walker, Josephine Mongey, John Fitzsimons, Jessica Farrell and Joan Farrell.

Next Social Dance

The next Social Dance in Teach Raithneach (A92W283) will be on Friday 19th May starting at 9pm, with Ray Murtagh providing the music. Raffle and light refreshments served. Everyone welcome.

Art Group News

Teach Raithneach Art Group, a peer-led group, continues it’s activities for the Summer term on Tuesdays from 7.30-9.30pm Enquiries to Niamh 0878173073.

Pilates

Stalls for Duleek Fair 2023 are now available. If you are interested please send us an email and we will send you the details. Stalls only on Sunday 18th June Cost of the 3×3 stall is €25.

We provide space only so you will need to take your own gazebo, tables and chairs. Please share among your friends.

Dr Mary O’Kane Starting ‘Big School’ Parenting Talk, Tuesday 6th June at 7.30pm in the Duleek Courthouse. To book your free place, please email duleekdft@gmail.com with your name and phone number.

Your child is starting ‘Big School’ in September, this means new experiences, new friends, and a whole new identity as a Junior Infant. Naturally you want to support them in making this transition a success. How should you best prepare your child for this major transition in their lives? In this session, Dr Mary O’Kane offers some very practical advice on the most important skill sets for children during this transition, and how best to support your child over the summer in developing these skills.

Book Club

Duleek Adult Book Club meet on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 5.30pm in Duleek Library. Participants can meet with other book lovers for discussions on different reads and to swap book recommendations. New members are always welcome but check with library staff regarding available spaces.

Well done and happy retirement...

All of the above and many more felicitations to Ann Philips and Fiacra Bell who both have recently announced their imminent retirements as principals of their respective schools in the parish, namely, St Bhuithe’s in Tenure and St Patrick’s in Harestown. Ann has been the consummate stalwart in Tenure since 1982 (Principal for the past 5 years) and her professionalism, together with more than generous portions of compassion and understanding has positively shaped copious young lives in the parish. Absolute ditto for Fiacra, a man of great vision an innovation. By co hosting, year after year, The Down Syndrome Ireland Ice Cream Party he enriched so many, many special lives. A big thank you for this, Fiacra and your committee, on behalf of myself and all that I have the pleasure to work with.

Again, Ann and Fiacra, take a bow for a job very well done. A job that had obviously become a labour of love and pls God, let your retirement be as lengthy and enjoyable as your current gig.

First Holy Communions.

Totally related, congrats to all pupils in St Bhuite’s who made their First Holy Communion, in georgous weather, on Saturday last. Let’s have more of the same for St.Patrick’s, to be Communicants, on Saturday next.

Drumshallon Forge AGM.

Drumshallon Forge Ltd (Drumshallon Forge Heritage Centre) will hold their Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 24th May at 8.30pm in the Forge Hall.
