Park properly

People parking in spaces for those with disabilities or impaired movement is something that impacts on many towns.

I came across this post last week; “It’s with annoyance I post this: On Thursday I had an appointment in Ardee at 12.30. As most of you know I use a wheelchair so I decided to park in the square outside the Library in Ardee as there are 2 designated spaces for people who are disabled. One place was occupied by a car displaying their badge. The other space was occupied by a car with no badge. I decided to try the car park behind the Credit Union but there was a car parked on the roadway blocking the disabled places. The majority of people in Ardee are very kind and helpful but a small minority are like these two drivers and have no regard for people who need these places. Please think of others who can’t just park anywhere, it’s very lazy and inconsiderate. I missed my appointment because of these two drivers.”

The bottom line - think of others when you park.

Newtown under 8s

The Newtown United U8s are ready to compete for the season ahead and it is great to see Meade Farm provide them with a new kit.

No.3 is number one!

Well done to No.3 Wine bar and restaurant in Collon who won the best in Leinster at the Food Awards Ireland. They went to the finals last week just delighted to be in the frame. What a win.

Sad death of Lorna

O’Flynn’s pharmacy in Ardee lost a wonderful member of the team last week, Lorna Gaynor.

As they remarked, “It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of our dear colleague and friend, Lorna Gaynor (née Corrigan) Let us remember Lorna for her warmth, kindness, and the beautiful memories she leaves behind. May her soul find eternal peace.”

DEFY store opens

Great to see a mid Louth firm on the rise. DEFY opened its new store at 29 Clanbrassil, Dundalk, last week and it’s a great spot.

Cairdre Rovers event

Cairde Rovers is a fundraising initiative launched by Hunterstown Rovers GAA club to raise money to develop their new pitch. All funds raised will go directly towards the cost of this development.

“To cater for the growing numbers attending our club at all age levels, we need to continue to develop our grounds and provide additional training facilities. We can only achieve this with your help and support,” the club say. “We are asking our members, friends, and supporters to become a member of Cairde Rovers and help shape the future of our club. A day for John Devitt

In memory of their friend and teammate John Devitt, Ardee Rugby Club and John Mitchels GFC will be hosting a charity event of both Rugby and GAA.

They are calling for all players and friends to attend for an afternoon remembering and celebrating the life of John Devitt by playing the two sports he loved dearly and passionately.

It will be a great afternoon of rugby, football, music, food and fun. All proceeds on the day will be donated to SOSAD.

2023 Pride of Place

The Pride of Place Initiative and Awards is about recognising the work of Community Groups and Volunteers in county Meath. Broomfield Walking Group

The Tumbling Paddies provided the best of entertainment at the Military Museum in Starinagh on Sunday 14th May last. Great music and song from the get go.

Cardiac First Responders

The following Community Members were presented with their CFR Certificates recently: Colm Dillon, Amanda Devin, Breege Drew, Roisin Roche, Josephine Sullivan, Gerard Weldon, Robin Bellew, Grainne Weldon, Aideen Walker, Josephine Mongey, John Fitzsimons, Jessica Farrell and Joan Farrell. If there is sufficient further Community interest in another Cardiac First Responders Course, then please get in contact with any of the above to express your interest, or contact the Secretary on 087 2729154.

Art Group News

Teach Raithneach Art Group, a peer-led group, continues it’s activities for the Summer term on Tuesdays from 7.30-9.30pm Enquiries to Niamh 0878173073.

Pilates

Green Kilometre/Pride of Place seek Volunteers

The Green Kilometre and Pride of Place, both Meath Co. Council Initiatives, are up and running. We need Volunteers to get involved. Please get in contact if you would like to help. Your involvement would be greatly appreciated.

TUS Vacancies

Tús is a Community based work placement scheme for people aged 18 and over. TUS participants work 19.5 hours per week in good quality local settings with a minimum weekly payment of €247.50, while retaining all secondary benefits. There are Tus vacancies locally with Broomfield and District Residents Association. If interested contact Tus Supervisor Kenny on 046 9280790. There are also a number of vacancies, both CE and TUS, with organisations based in Collon Village.

Community Grants Scheme 2023

Broomfield and District Residents Association has secured €635 from Meath Co. Council’s Community Grant Scheme for 2023. It will plug a hole somewhere. Graciously accepted, thanks.

Space available

There is ample space available in Teach Raithneach for all types of Fitness and Well-being Classes and Activities. Tutors/Instructors in these types of activities, please take note. Are there any, Music Teachers out there who would be interested in teaching how to play a musical instrument at Teach Raithneach? Contact the Secretary on 087 2729154 for further information. Sheepdog Trials

The Ballymacan Sheepdog Trials are set to take place on Sunday 16th July. More information closer to the date. Time to get Rover, Rex and Roxy match fit!
