LAYTOWN/BETTYSTOWN

End of My Era

It was back in 1986 I started the village notes, having been approached by former Editor Paul Murphy, to undertake the task. Back then the local newspaper was welcomed into homes with anticipation and expectation every week. News about local clubs and organisations as well as family events, birthdays, marriages and deaths were recorded for posterity. It kept people up to date with local news and happenings.

In recent years expectations have changed dramatically. We want news instantaneously and with the advent of social media, that is what we want and expect on a daily basis. The weekly paper is still a staple in many homes and I hope it will continue to do so.

This is Louth Newsletter

I would like to thank all the clubs and readers who have trusted me with their notes down through the years. It has been a pleasure and a privilege. So, after more than thirty-five years I lay down my pen for the final time this week.
