Termonfeckin Film

The film “Termonfeckin: Village Life, Past and Present” is ready for viewing and will be screened in the Droichead Arts Centre, Drogheda this Sunday September 25th at 7.30pm. This documentary film has been worked upon over the past two years by “Well Termonfeckin ‘’and it focuses on the village and its surroundings as well as allowing some residents who live or have lived there to share their experiences. Tickets are free but are limited so it is advisable to book them as soon as possible. Prior to the screening, at 6.30pm local author Nicola Cassidy will launch her new book “The Emerald Spy”, a story which is set in Termonfeckin and is inspired by Vida Lentaigne who lived in Newtown House (An Grianan). Sounds like an evening to look forward to.

Litter Problem

Walking along some of the Parish roads, it seems that litter dumping has not gone away. The problem is chronic in places thanks to the filthy animals who think nothing of discarding litter from cars or indeed homes in black refuse bags along the grass verges and in ditches. Indeed some of these bags have been torn open by passing wildlife and litter trails are a horrible sight. Much of this is done under cover of darkness and becomes more visible due to hedges and grass verges being cut. Until some of these perpetrators are caught and made an absolute example of, it sadly will go on. What has to be done to stop it?

St. Fechin’s GAA

A tough week but all teams in action over the last week or so should be praised for their performances. The Senior Men bowed out of this year’s Senior Championship at the hands of the Geraldines in what was described as spectacular fashion, a dreaded extra time goal just before the final whistle. The St. Fechin’s Ladies faced tough opposition from Cooley in the Semi-Finals of the Senior Championship and unfortunately their luck ran out with a 3 point loss. However both teams remain in the Senior Division. The Minor team were pipped by a last minute goal from Dundalk Gaels resulting in a 2 point loss and are also out of the Championship. The U13 Camogie team provided a very entertaining match in their League campaign but were unfortunate to lose by a very small margin to Mattock Rangers. However this team is said to be improving in every game. The U15 Girls also found themselves in a tough game which resulted in a defeat by the Geraldines. The U13 and U15 Hurlers welcomed Ratheniska GAA Club to Beaulieu for Challenge matches and gave great performances but the Laois Hurlers showed their strength and experience on the day. In Round 3 of the Championship, the U15 Boys beat St. Brides and now face Mattock/Hunterstown in the Quarter Finals. The various Blitz’s being held give younger teams the opportunity to prove themselves as well as gaining experience and the U9 Boys hosted their last Blitz of the season against teams from St. Kevin’s and Oliver Plunkett’s. Their skill and teamwork was highly praised. The U7 Hurlers were hosted by St. Joseph’s in Dromiskin who they played against as well as teams from Knockbridge and Naomh Moninne. This very young team gave what was described as a very promising start to the world of Hurling. Good luck to the Minor Girls who are training hard and getting ready for their season which begins next month.

St. Fechin’s Lotto
