Congratulations Bettystown Tidy Towns - winners of the Meath County Council Pride of Place Awards Climate Action Award - Large Project

The Climate Action award was in recognition of their pollinator gardens, street planting, water harvesting, pollinator friendly planting, recycling, energy workshops and their recently completed plans, to build a boardwalk and plant marram grass in exposed areas of the dunes.

Run Jump Throw Programme

The Run Jump throw is running over 6 weeks and is aimed at children with Autism/Intellectual disability aged 5-12 years. The sessions will include a variety of sports, fun games and obstacle challenges all adapted to the participants needs. The programme aims to improve the participant’s fundamental movement skills and increase their confidence in participating in regular physical activity. The involvement of siblings is encouraged during the programme. The programme runs every Wednesday from November 9th to December 14th. Venue: Colaiste na hInse, Bettystown. Time 5 pm to 6 pm. Christmas Market

An Event not to be missed in Laytown - Christmas Market in Gilna’s Cottage Inn on Saturday 11th December from 1 pm until 5pm. Buy all your locally made gifts for Christmas.

Road Safety

Ashbourne Gardaí along with the Road Safety Authority (RSA) and Meath Road Safety Officer Michael Finnegan joined together recently to visit Coláiste na Hinse in Laytown to give advice to the students on keeping safe on our roads.

Presentations were given by Michael Finnegan and Garda Juvenile Liaison Officer Ashling Connor regarding young drivers. Community Policing Sergeant Barry Connor and Garda Deirdre Semple gave road safety advice. The RSA’s shuttle bus was also on site with its many interactive stations and the students got to experience the Aviva VR sets on the day.

Well done to all involved, a great day was had!

Laytown Wave Warriors

Laytown Wave Warriors are still swimming every Saturday and Sunday despite the chilly weather. Brilliant fun in the waves and great seeing more new faces every week.


We are thrilled to be bringing back our Christmas market this year. Our Hall and courtyard will be packed with a dazzling array of fantastic handmade arts and crafts from near and far. If you are looking for great gift ideas, then look no further we will have some great items to make anyone’s Christmas wishes come true

Active Retirement

East Meath Active Retirement Association (EMARA) meet every Thursday in St. Mary’s Church of Ireland Parish Rooms from 2.30 pm to 4.30 pm each week. New members are always welcome to join this vibrant group of men and women.

Star of the Sea Church

During the month of November we remember our dead. Please write out your list of family members and friends who are deceased and bring them to mass with you or drop them in to the Presbytery. The pink envelope & list of the dead page are in your envelope box and special envelopes are also available as you enter the Church.

Enrolment Masses for Confirmation & First Holy Communion - Sunday 27th November: Enrolment Mass for Donacarney Girls for First Communion at 10am.

Sunday 4th December: Enrolment Mass for Donacarney Boys for First Communion at 10am.

Meals on wheels

Hot Meals are delivered to your home between 12.30 and 1.30 Monday, Wednesday, and Friday of each week throughout the year, excluding Bank Holidays. Areas covered are Laytown, Bettystown, Mornington, Donacarney and Colpe. The charge is €5 per person per meal and if you would like to avail of this service, please contact us on 085 7570810.

Fancy Fair

The Slane Wanderers Fancy Fair is back and takes place on Sunday, December 11th, from 3 - 5pm in the parish hall. Plenty of prizes and plenty of entertainment as well as the Fancy Fair big prize of a renewable Energy System fully installed on your home, farm or business, valued at €7000 and sponsored by Fennor Developments Solar. Christmas light ceremony

Enjoy an ideal start to your Christmas celebrations with a magical festive atmosphere at the Slane Castle traditional Christmas tree lighting ceremony in the Castle Courtyard on Sunday, November 27th. Enjoy a walk in the woods, brunch at Browne’s Bar between 11 - 4pm with a Castle or Distillery Tour prior to the lighting ceremony which will be performed by Alex Conyngham, the Earl of Mountcharles. Music in the Courtyard and the Silver Fox food truck will be in full swing serving mulled wine, Irish coffees, Baileys hot chocolate, mince pies and crepes. Walk in welcome but booking is advised for the bunch at Browne’s and Castle tours. The grounds open from 10am.

Christmas Street Fair

A Christmas Street Fair takes place on Main Street, Slane, on Thursday, December 1st from 5 - 9pm. Enjoy some Christmas cheer and meet some of the local businesses.

Slane GAA

Numbers drawn in the weekly lotto on Wednesday, November 16th were 17, 19, 21, 26. There was no winner and the jackpot is now €2825. The spot prize winners were Peggy McGrane, Helen Kearns, Dawn Martin, Gerry Carolan.

Well done to the four Slane men, Matt Tully, Sean Martyn and Jim and Francis Marry who were part of the Boyne Valley squad that won the inaugural Meath Regional Football Championship at Ashbourne on Sunday, defeating Tara 2-11 to 0-7 in the final.

The club’s Drive In Bingo continues every Wednesday evening in Toddy Harding Park at 7.30. Single books €15, double book €20.

Christmas Variety Show

Rathkenny Revels are having a Christmas Variety Show fundraiser on December 1st, 2nd and 3rd, in Rathkenny Community Centre, starting at 7.30 each night. There will be plenty of live music, singing, dancing and comedy for all the family with MC Tom Kerrigan. Please come along and support the fundraiser for the upgrade of the community centre. Tickets €15 at the door.

Walking Group

The Slane Striders Walking Group meet each Tuesday evening at 7.30pm for walks around the Slane/Boyne Valley area. They also meet on Thursday mornings at 10.30am. New members always welcome. For further information contact Lucy Kennedy on 0874649876.

Ledwidge Museum

Winter opening hours have commenced at the Francis Ledwidge Museum. The museum is open as follows: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday 10am to 3.30pm. Closed Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.

Joker Draw

The Joker Draw takes place in Lynch’s Bar every Sunday evening. Get your envelopes in any of the shops and pubs in the village, €3 for one week and €20 for seven weeks. All proceeds go towards the St Patrick’s Day Parade 2023. Plans are being made for the big Christmas draw which takes place on Sunday, December 11th.

Slane Spinners

Slane Spinners Cycling Club have leisure spins every Sunday morning leaving the square in Slane at 9am and everyone is welcome. Turbo Training classes take place in the Youth Cafe every Thursday for the winter months starting at 7pm. All welcome, please bring towel and water plus small donation each night towards the rent of the hall. For further information contact Barry on 087 9469047.

Christmas fair

Rathkenny Community Centre is hosting a Christmas Fair this Sunday, November 27th from 11am - 4pm. There will be over 20 stall holders, entry is free to the fair and all are welcome. Refreshments will be available and shop will be open. The kids can visit Santa in his grotto and post their letters between 1 - 4pm. All proceeds go to the Little Blue Hero’s in memory of Rathkenny’s own little hero Sarah Byrne.

Kids Disco

A kids Christmas Disco takes place in Seneschalstown GAA pavilion from 7 - 9pm on Friday, December 2nd for ages 5 -12 years (parents to accompany younger children). Tuck shop will be open. Tickets from Karina at 087 2382216 and Claire 087 9743017.

Oldbridge Christmas Fair

The ever popular Oldbridge Christmas Fair is returning for 2022 and takes place in the beautiful walled garden this Sunday, November 27th, from 11am to 3.30pm. Soak up the festive atmosphere in the large spacious marquee, meander around the small gazebos and marvel at the quality of wares on display. Alongside the wonderful food and craft stalls there will be seasonal music to get you in the festive spirit. Entry is free of charge.

Larry’s Roller Cycle

Local cycling legend Larry Clarke will hold a 24 hour Roller Cycle at St Erc’s in the village at the beginning of December. The event start on Friday, December 2nd, with all proceeds from this special event going to the ARC Cancer Support Centre. The centre cares for people with cancer, their families and friends regardless of where they live. It is also a voluntary organisation with its services free of charge.
