Sincere Sympathy

The sincere sympathy of Broomfield & District Residents Association and the Community of Broomfield and District is extended to the Roche and extended Roche Family, and to all who are bereaved by the passing of Niall Roche RIP, Broomfield, recently. You are in our thoughts and prayers at this sad time for you. Niall was a former Secretary of the Association, and a valued Committee Member for many years. He can be rightly credited with providing the template for the Association’s first Constitution. A very Community spirited man, Niall was involved with many Organisations over the years including Collon Youth Club, Collon Development Association, Collon Parish Council, and Collon Pitch and Putt Club, where he was a key Member, holding a number of positions at Executive Officer level. He was also their delegate to the ACEP Community Employment Scheme. A testament to the esteem in which Niall was held was evidenced at his Funeral Obsequies on Wednesday 15th June last. A Guard of Honour was formed by Members of Collon Pitch and Putt Club on the Bridge on Slane Road adjacent to the Pitch and Putt Club as the Funeral Cortege made its way to the Church of Mary Immaculate, Collon for the Funeral Mass. After Niall’s Funeral Mass, Mattock Rangers GFC, Broomfield and District Residents Association, and Community Members provided a Guard of Honour to the New Cemetery Collon. Niall made an immense contribution to Community Development in the area in the fifty years he lived here. A true Dub at heart, Niall never forget his roots, of which he was extremely proud. Dublin’s loss was certainly our gain when he came to live among us. It was a privilege to know, work, and socialise with Niall. He was a great neighbour and friend to many, particularly in Broomfield where he lived. Thanks for the memories Niall. Ar dheis De go raibh a anam dilis.

Sincere Sympathy

The sincere sympathy of Broomfield & District Residents Association and the Community of Broomfield and District is extended to the Duff and extended Duff Family, and to all who are bereaved by the recent passing of Peter (Pete) Duff RIP., Failsworth, Greater Manchester, England, and formerly of Kellystown and Mountfortescue. You are in our thoughts and prayers at this sad time for you. Pete is a former pupil of Grangegeeth National School. Ar dheis De go raibh a anam dilis.

Soaring costs begin to bite

The soaring costs of materials are beginning to bite for Voluntary Community Organisations, and is quite the topic of conversation at present. Where grass-cutting is an activity engaged in, then one cannot but notice the cost of fuel. A five litre can of petrol with the appropriate 2 stroke oil mix for strimmers will cost in excess of €13. A compelling reason to cut down on the grass-cutting if ever there was one. Other materials like paint, timber, and caretaking/housekeeping materials are all getting more expensive. According to a significant number of Voluntary Organisations, their insurance premiums have increased this year, with some cutting down on their activities as a result. The issue of Insurance has been an on-going one for more than ten years now, but has yet to be resolved. Its time for action, Politicians need to take control and tackle the problem, once and for all. The time for Report after Report, and hiring Consultants to look into it, is long gone. We’re listening to the same rameish for too long now. Action please, agus brostaigh!
