Ardcath Tidy Towns
Wildflowers have been planted at the High Cross (Welsh’s Cross) and work continues on the weeding and planting of the village and surrounding areas. Volunteers are always welcome and now that summer holidays are on the horizon, perhaps some of the younger folk can get involved in the work.
Tara Lecture Series
Anyone interested in local history will not want to miss the Tara Lecture Series which takes place at the Hill of Tara Visitor Centre each Wednesday from July 6th to July 27th at 8 p.m. The opening lecture is “Losing your Head: Crime and Punishment in medieval Trim” by Dr. Michael Potterson; “The Residents of Knowth 3200 BC to 1990 AD” by Dr. Eoin Grogan on July 13th; “Replicating the Crosses of Kells” by Michael Ann Bevivino July 20th and finally “Medieval Navan and its Environs” by Clare Ryan MIAI on July 27th. Admission is free but seats are limited so COME EARLY. No pre booking required.
Well-Oiled Wheelers
Eight cyclists and a crew from the WOW’s cycled the epic Malin to Mizen 600 km cycle in under 24 hours on Sat last 25th June. This was a massive challenge but the guys have been training hard and were in great shape. They were supported by a backup crew who were with them all the way. It was not an easy journey and the weather was not great. A great achievement by these men; well done and congratulations.
The Well-Oiled Wheelers was formed in 2011 and is growing from strength to strength with over fifty active members participating in regular club cycles and weekend events.
Meath Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes

CPR Training Day
Duleek Cardiac First Response Group are holding a CPR community training day this Sunday 3rd July at Duleek Bellewstown & District Community Facility. You can learn & practice how to perform hands only CPR and see a demonstration of a defibrillator (AED) in use. Sessions will take place at 10am, 11am, 12noon, 2pm, 3pm & 4pm. Meath Co. Co. Elections
Congratulations to Nick Killian on being elected Cathaoirleach of Meath County Council. Congratulations and best wishes to local Councillor, Cllr. Wayne Harding who was elected to the position of Cathaoirleach of the Laytown/ Bettystown Municipal District Council recently. This is the third time Cllr. Harding has held this position. We look forward to getting a bit of work done around Julianstown and East Meath. Congratulations and best wishes also to Cllr. Stephen Mc Kee who is the new Leas-Cathaoirleach for this area as well.

This new festival of sport will include a wide range of exciting new games and sporting initiatives for children and teenager including: Beach Volleyball, Beach Handball and Beach Cricket. Cost is €5 each and places are limited so early booking is essential. Contact Meath MLSP at http://www.meathsports.ie 11am – 1pm (Children 8-12yrs)–2pm – 4pm (Teens 13-17yrs).
The Sandcastle Competition is back! Sunday July 24th
Time to get the buckets and spades ready! It will be taking place on Sunday July 24th on Bettystown beach, starting from 2:30pm! Judging will commence at 4pm.
We hope to see all the regular faces and lots of new ones too!
The categories are as follows: -Under 5’s- There are lots of prizes up for grabs so time to get practicing Under 8’s Under 13’s-Family-Junior Sculpture -Senior Sculpture.
Bettystown Tidy Towns
On Saturday last the wall and pole planters were installed around the village. They were supplied and planted up by Pat Stafford Garden Centre Laytown. We love the splash of colour they bring to the village. The volunteers also did a street and beach litter pick, a street sweep, and the street planters were washed and topped up with compost from our garden compost bays. Great work by all these very generous people.
St. Oliver’s Procession and Mass
The procession in honour of St. Oliver Plunkett takes place this Sunday 3rd July beginning at Holy Family Church Ballsgrove at 3pm. Mass will be celebrated in St. Peter’s Church West Street Drogheda.
Charity Bridge
Charity Summer Bridge continues on Tuesdays at 7.30pm in Laytown/Bettystown Golf Club and each Tuesday throughout the summer. New players welcome. Proceeds to East Meath Meals on Wheels.

Peter McVerry Walk
The Boyne Valley Camino in aid of Peter McVerry Trust will take place on Saturday 9th July. This is a looped route which will begin at St Peter’s Church in Drogheda on Saturday morning. The walk will last approximately 5 hours and will stop for lunch along the way. All funds raised will go towards the charity’s work with people impacted by homelessness across Ireland. EMARA
The East Meath Active Retirement Association have resumed activities and will meet every Thursday in St. Mary’s Church of Ireland Parish room from 2.30p.m. until 4.30p.m. each week. New members are always welcome to join this vibrant group of men and women who have plenty of events and outings for the coming months in the pipeline.
MCC Draft Litter Management Plan
Notice is hereby given under Section 10 of the Litter Pollution Act 1997, as amended, that Meath County Council has published a Draft Litter Management Plan 2022-2024. The draft plan has been prepared for the prevention and control of litter in the County and sets out appropriate objectives for the three-year period. A copy of the draft plan is available for public inspection during normal opening hours at the offices of Meath County Council for a period of four weeks from Monday 27th June until Friday 29th July 2022. Submissions and observations on the proposed Draft Plan are invited from members of the public and from voluntary and representative bodies and such submissions will be taken into consideration before the Draft Plan is adopted or implemented.
