Bettystown Tidy Towns

If you’d like to get involved message us on Facebook and Instagram @bettystown_tidytowns or come along and meet us in the village on Saturday mornings between 9 and 11am. Come and join us! Bettystown Tidy Towns will be out cleaning the village this Saturday. Come and join us. All welcome! Meet in the Square at 9am. One of our Volunteers noticed that there the bus stop at Whitefield was quite badly littered and did a midweek tidy and collected a bag of rubbish. Well done!.

St. Colmcills GAA, Pilltown Road

St Colmcilles lotto on Tuesday 7th of March was €5,500. The numbers drawn were 2, 5, 17 and 24. There was no winner of the jackpot and our two €50 winners were Sean Perry, Bryanstown Cross, and Jim Hickey, Laytown. The Jackpot is €5,600 on Tuesday 14th of March. Well done to our teams who played in finals on Monday 6th and Tuesday 7th of March. On Monday 6th our Reserve Cup Division 2 side made the trip to Ballinlough where Captain Oisin McAleenan led the team to a 3-6 to 1-6 victory. We just had a quick 24 hour break and we were into another final, this time at home in Piltown. Our Reserve Cup Division 1 team took on O’Mahonys and made sure they added to the silverware, with a 1-12 to 0-10, led by our Captain Stephen Emmet. Well done to all involved, our players, coaches and volunteers.

Most of our teams are now back training for the 2023 season. All children aged 10 and above up to adult level are back training midweek. If you want to get involved, just make contact via any of our Social Media channels and someone will get in touch with you.

Our Academy for children born in 2014-2019 will be back on Sunday 26th of March. We can’t wait to welcome everyone back to Piltown for more games and fun.

The main pitch at Killygordon will be open on the morning of St Patricks day from 10am to 12noon for all registered players to have a kick about. Just turn up with boots, shin pads, drink, bit of grub and we will take it from there, meeting in the stand.

Laytown Tidy Towns

Volunteers meet every Saturday morning at the car park from 10 am. to spruce up different areas of our village. Great work is being carried out by Laytown Volunteers and if you happened to be driving by on the Laytown to Julianstown Road you would have seen many of them litter picking along the roadside, and they were doing trojan work. Meanwhile others were fully engrossed in preparing the new wildflower bed. If you would like to help, please come along, and join us.

Body of mutilated dog found on Laytown Beach

An Garda Siochana have launched an investigation following the discovery of a badly mutilated dog’s body on a beach in Co Meath yesterday (8th March, 2023). The dog, an American Pitbull terrier, was found badly mutilated and tied up to a barrier area at the beach on Wednesday. The shocking and savage killing of the dog is understood to have been videoed, with footage of the defenceless animal being tortured, stabbed and sliced to death shared on social media. In a statement, a garda spokesperson confirmed that enquiries are being made in relation to the discovery of the dog’s body in the Laytown area of Co Meath on Wednesday. “An Garda Síochána continues to liaise with the Meath Dog Warden and the Irish Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ISPCA) in relation to the matter. If anyone has any information, CCTV or dashcam footage, please pass it on the Gardaí in Laytown.

East Meath Active Retirement Association (EMARA) meet every Thursday in St. Mary’s Church of Ireland Parish Rooms, Julianstown from 2.30 pm to 4.30 pm each week. Star of the Sea Church

To help Fr. Joseph and the Parish Pastoral Council to identify the pastoral needs of the Parish, a suggestion box has been placed in the Church. We welcome suggestions from all parishioners.

Star of the Sea Church - Children’s Choir has resumed every Wednesday from 6.30pm – 7.15pm for children from Third to Sixth Class in the Parish Rooms in preparation for the Easter Masses.

Children’s Liturgy Group continues Sundays for children from Junior Infants to First Class at the 11.30am Mass in Mornington Church. New Leaders & Helpers are required. If you feel you can help, please contact the Children’s Liturgy Team Member on Sunday or the Parish Office on 041-9827384.

World Youth Day 2023 (1st-6th August) will be celebrated in Lisbon, Portugal. It is a massive weeklong event, with Pope Francis, for young Catholics (aged 18-35) to gather and participate in from every corner of the world.
