A CORK developer’s plans to erect a new apartment block on Canal New Road have been appealed to An Bord Pleanala.

In May Kerry County Council granted planning permission – subject to a number of conditions – to Tulfarris CG limited to demolish a number of derelict structures and construct an apartment complex, comprising of 19 apartments and associated site works, on the former ‘Jones Joinery Workshop’ site adjacent to the Kerry Group head office campus’ rear entrance.

Of the 19 apartments 11 were to be one bed units with the remaining eight to be two bedroom.

The decision to grant planning permission to the Bandon based development firm – which also has a business presence in Tralee – has now been appealed to An Bord Pleanala by Laura and Graham Foster and Andrius Krusa.

The Fosters operate Windmill Glazing next to the site of the planned apartment block and Mr Krusa runs A&D Garage next to the glazing business.

In a joint submission to Kerry County Council following Tulfarris initial planning application the Fosters and Mr Kusa raised a number of concerns including the height of planned apartment complex compared to neighbouring buildings and the lack of parking spaces.

A decision on the case due from the planning board by October 10 this year.
