NA GAEIL

Race Night

Our Race Night took place on Friday last from the clubhouse and on Facebook Live and was a resounding success. It went off without a hitch due to the great work done by our hard working Race Committee. Great credit has to go to chief organizer Terry McEneaney who was ably assisted by Cathy Carey, Donal Lucey and our magnificent sales team, who worked tirelessly over the last six weeks to bring you the race night. Our technical team of Alan Cantwell, Denis Moriarty, Brian O’Shea and Ciara did a superb job in the production side of things and left no stone unturned to ensure that everything ran smoothly on the night. Denis Sugrue did a great job as MC and chairperson Tim Lynch Jnr. was on hand to welcome everybody and later in the evening to interview Kerry senior manager Jack O’Connor and former Kerry captain Dara O Cinnéide. The feature race of the night, the €1,000 Na Gaeil Gold Cup was won by club stalwart, Joe Clifford’s horse Oreo. Trainer was Noah Clifford and jockey was Aoileann Clifford.

Best dressed lady was Cathy Carey and best dressed gent was Joe Hanley. Club chairperson, Tim Lynch Jnr. presented them with their prizes. The support we received from our members and the wider community was phenomenal. We would like to thank everybody that purchased a horse. The parents of our under-age players gave us great support as did all of our club members, relatives and friends.

Senior Championship

Large crowds flocked to Austin Stack Park on Saturday evening for the eagerly awaited clash of St. Brendan’s and Austin Stacks in the Garvey’s Senior Football Championship semi final. After a rather lackluster first half, the game came to life early in the 2nd period. St. Brendan’s were dealt a huge blow at the beginning of that half when the lost Diarmuid O’Connor with a hand injury. However they never dropped their heads and took the game to Stacks, playing some superb football. The conceded a goal late in the half to go 3 points in arrears but their never say die attitude saw them scoring 3 wonderful points to force extra time. Stacks again scored a rather fortuitous goal in the 2nd period of extra time to go 4 points ahead and looked to be home and hosed. But St. Brendan’s just wouldn’t go away and went a point ahead through an amazing goal by Ivan Parker nearing the end of extra time. Stacks forced a draw which brought the game the penalties with St. Brendan’s unfortunately losing out in the end. But what a performance by St. Brendan’s. While they are bitterly disappointed they can hold your heads up high after giving it their all and leaving everything on the pitch. Well done to all the players and management on a great performance. They were just a bit unfortunate that lady luck deserted them on the night.

Speedy Recovery

We wish Diarmuid O’Connor, who sustained a nasty hand injury in the Senior County Championship semi final against Austin Stacks on Saturday night, a speedy recovery and hope he will be back to full health soon.

Freshers League

It was great to see two Na Gaeil stars Enda O’Connor and Tomás O hAiniféin captaining CIT and UCC in their Freshers League clash recently. It was a nice moment when both players headed to the middle of the field for the toss. Na Gaeil’s Jack Bourke was also on the UCC team and played well by all accounts.
