Well done to the Kerry Ladies on making the All-Ireland Final yesterday in Croke park. Unfortunately, you did not come out the victors but you did your county proud. From everyone here at John Mitchels best of luck in the future.

A great turnout on a lovely Sunday Morning in Ballyseedy. The girls went straight into some drills including kicking hand passing and scoring. The girls are so much improved and all the coaches are very proud of the effort that all of the players are putting in. Training continues On Sunday next
Training continued for our 12 girls this week and we had two really good sessions with the girls. We are still waiting for our fixtures for the upcoming Tralee Town league and we are hopeful that the effort being show in training will be reflected on the score board. We had a brilliant training game on Wednesday evening where a mixture of our U12s and 13s competed in a very entertaining game. The improvement since the start of the season has been massive and a lot of credit must be given to the girls who are really giving it everything this season. We will train this week on Wednesday from 7-8 and again on Sunday morning at midday, and we look forward to seeing everyone. Best wishes to Áine Dowling who is competing at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann in Mullingar this week from all at the Mitchels club.

Donal Curtin cup semi-final v Rathmore B was played last Thursday in Ballyseedy in ideal conditions. Mitchels played with the breeze and got off to a good start with scores from Rachel Kilgallen . Ava Buckley and Grace Myers nudged us ahead at the water break. Rathmore upped their game and put our very solid defense under pressure with Emma Walsh in goals very safe and with Tanya O Connor and Shannon Martin fighting for every ball we maintained our lead at half time up by 5 points. The third quarter saw Rathmore push hard to close the game but great play from Lauren Smullen, Emma Carmody, Sarah Kilgallen and Linda O Connor saw us take a few breakaway scores. With Rathmore pressing all the way, a last quarter a goal from Grace after good work from Simi and Ciara Kilgallen helped by Rachel Mc Eniry, Julie Foley and Claire O Sullivan kept us in front. A number of injuries slowed the game and with Emilia and Abigail coming on it pushed us to hold out for a great win on a score line of 6-7 to 1-14, Thanks to a very good Rathmore team. We now face the mighty Southern Gaels in the final on Wednesday 3rd August at 8.00pm venue TBC.
The Senior Men play their first game in the Intermediate Championship on the 6th of August V Dromid in Glenbeigh at 7.00pm. Please show your support.

Commiserations to Mary O’Connell and Laura Fitzgerald and the Kerry Senior Ladies team who were defeated by defending champions Meath last Sunday in the senior All-Ireland final. It was their first final since 2012 so hopefully the experience gained this year will stand to the girls and they’ll come back even stronger next year.
Belated congratulations to our senior player Eoin O’Neill and his bride Denise Moran who got married a few weeks ago. We wish them a long and happy life together.
Well done to our U14 player Riona McMorrow Moriarty who had a fantastic 3rd place finish at the World Topper Sailing Championships in Italy last week.
Last Sunday night, July 31st, was a very special night in the history of our club as 2 of our very own players brought the Sam Maguire cup to the clubhouse.
Hundreds of people of all ages were there to welcome Jack and Diarmuid as well as the Kerry team manager, Jack O’Connor. Chairman Tim Lynch address the crowd and said it was incredible that Na Gaeil now had 3 All-Ireland medals. He spoke about the vision and bravery of our founder members, many of whom thankfully are still with us, who established our club over 40 years ago.
Diarmuid O’Connor thanked the many coaches he had in Na Gaeil since the first day he started as well as his coaches during his time in Gaelscoil Mhic Easmainn. He said it was brilliant to win an All-Ireland alongside his club mates Stefan and Jack who he had always looked up to. He thanked everyone for their support all through the year.
Jack Barry said it was a huge honour to bring the cup back to the club but it wouldn’t have been possible without the help and support of the many excellent mentors and coaches in the club.
Jack O’Connor then spoke and said he was delighted to come to Na Gaeil to honour the lads. He recalled sending out an SOS to Jack and Diarmuid prior to Kerry’s crucial National League tie against Dublin this year (which was only a matter of days after Na Gaeil’s heart-breaking loss to Steelstown in the All-Ireland club semi-final) and neither of them hesitated. Kerry went on to win that match and subsequently the National League title.
Tim Lynch and Jack O’Connor then unveiled a framed photo of Jack, Diarmuid and Stefan which will hang proudly in the clubhouse for many years to come. After the speeches both Jack and Diarmuid gave up so much of their time signing autographs and taking photos with what must have felt like every man, woman and child in Na Gaeil!
We look forward to having the cup in Killeen again during juvenile training on Sunday morning, August 14th.
The under 9s had a great evening out in Farranfore last Tuesday evening when they played Firies in the second phase of their Go-Games. We fielded 3 teams and our players did themselves and their club proud. Well done boys! Thanks to Firies for hosting us and we look forward to welcoming them to na Gaeil in the near future. Last Sunday July 31st we made the short trip to John Mitchels where we enjoyed a great morning of football. Again we fielded 3 teams and all our boys played very well. Thanks to John Mitchels for hosting us.
Our lads defeated an under-strength Ardfert side last Wednesday night in their third game in the Kelliher’s Toyota Central Region competition. We still have 1 back game to complete, away to St Michael’s Foilmore and that will determine the semi-final pairings.
Last Thursday, 28th July, we held our monthly Executive meeting. All members in attendance were naturally delighted with Kerry’s win in the All Ireland final the previous Sunday and expressed their huge pride in the club’s own Jack Barry, Diarmuid O’Connor and Stefan Okunbor. It was described by many as =93the best day in the history of our young club=94. Congratulations were offered to the familys of the 3 lads and also to the many coaches they’ve had over the years in Na Gaeil. Chairman Tim Lynch also commended RTE and TG4 for their broadcasts from the clubhouse during the game and the great exposure it gave to our club. The executive also ratified a development committee which will look at all areas of development of our facilities in Killeen and hopefully look at expanding our facilities. Our members will be informed of any developments as they happen. The delegates also wanted to wish the best of luck to Mary O’Connell and Laura Fitzgerald in next Sunday’s senior Ladies Football final in Croke Park. Other matters discussed at the meeting included the club lotto, the upcoming Senior Club Championship and various social events in the bar.
