Ballymac 0-5; Austin Stacks 4-8.
The strong swirling wind did not help for a high-scoring game and that’s how it turned out to be with our lads having eleven wides and the opposition six, shots which, on a normal day, would have sailed over the bar. We opened the scoring in the 4th minute a well-taken goal by Seán Quilter following good work by Darragh O’Brien. Darragh himself was on target for the next score in the 12th minute. This was followed, two minutes later, by Ballymac’s only score of the first half. Two late points by Conor Horan and Gearóid Fitzgerald left us ahead at the break by 1-3 to 0-1.
Greg Horan was no sooner on the pitch at the start of the second half when he put over a beauty one minute after the resumption. Greg was again involved less than two minutes later when a long ball from his own defence found Fiachna Mangan and Fiachna’s perfect pass found Cian Purcell whose low shot found the corner of the net. The only score of the game from a placed ball came immediately after when Darragh O’Brien was on target.
Ballymac’s second score of the game came in the 35th minute and then we put over three consecutive points by Michael O’Donnell, Darragh O’Brien and Eoghan Carroll, all from play. Ballymac then had two more points in the 50th and 52nd minutes before we sealed the game with two super goals by Gearóid Fitzgerald and Darragh O’Brien in the 55th and 56th minutes with Barry Walsh (who later was awarded the Celsius Mensware Man of the Match), Greg Horan and Sean Quilter very much involved in the build-up. The final score of the game came two minutes later- a point from play for the home side.
It was good to see Cian Dillane making his Senior team debut during the second half.
Team: Wayne Guthrie, Barry Walsh, Joey Nagle, Niall Fitzmaurice, Armin Heinrich, Ronan Shanahan, Adam Curran, Michael O’Donnell (Capt) (0-1), Barry Shanahan, Conor Horan (0-1), Darragh O’Brien (1-3 one free), Fiachna Mangan, Seán Quilter (1-0), Gearóid Fitzgerald (1-1), Cian Purcell (1-0).
Subs used: Greg Horan (ht) (0-1), Eoghan Carroll (42m) (0-1), Luke Chester (42m), Dara Barry Walsh (53m), Cian Dillane (53m).
Next in line is our postponed round 8 game against Kerins O’Rahillys which goes ahead in Connolly Park on the coming week-end.
In the meantime all in the Club wish Dylan Casey a speedy and full recovery from his operation last week. It was great to see Dylan at the game in Ballymac.
Keel 3-9 (18); Austin Stacks 1-12 (15).
After two good wins in our two previous rounds we just came up short in this round 9 Co. League game played in Keel on a blustery Saturday evening (11th June). After a slow start (we were six points down after 20 minutes (1-4 to 0-1) we finished the stronger scoring 1-3 to Keels 1-1. This still left us four points in arrears at the interval (2-5 to 1-4).
Keel’s first goal came after just 40 seconds and just over a minute later Conor Myers got us off the mark with a pointed free. Our next three points came from play with Calvin Foley on target twice and a super effort from John Carmody in the 25th minute. Just coming up to half time Conor Myers gave us some hope with a well-taken goal.
Our lads had a very good second half but a third Keel goal, half way through this half, was the difference between the sides in the end. Two points each from play by Gearóid Sheehan and Calvin Foley and one by Jordan Kissane, together with three pointed frees by Donagh McKivergan was our contribution in this second half. Team: Ben Quilter, Ruairí O’Connell, Paul Barrett, John Murphy, Luke Chester, Shane Walsh, Cian Dillane, Dara Barry Walsh, Eoghan Carroll, Ciarán O’Connell, Gearóid Sheehan (0-2), Jordan Kissane (0-1), John Carmody (0-1), Calvin Foley (0-4), Conor Myers (1-1 one pointed free).
Subs used: Shane Carroll (16m), David Burke, Cillian Litchfield and Donagh McKivergan (0-3 frees) (45m); Daniel O’Rourke (53m).
We now have two more games to play, against Ardfert and Beale, and wins in these two games would go a long way to keeping us in division 4 for the coming season.
The C Team
Like our Seniors our C team also have a home game against Kerins O’Rahillys in their final Co. League game on this Friday evening (17th June). Throw-in in Connolly Park is also at 7pm.
Well done to the Kerry Minors, including our own Colm Browne, Paddy Lane and Michael Tansley, on their win over Tyrone last Saturday. It was great to see Colm back again after missing a few games through injury. Congrats also to the Clare footballers, including our own Conor Jordan, on their brilliant win over Roscommon, with Conor playing a vital role in the closing minutes of that game to clinch that one point victory in a high-scoring game (2-15 to 1-17).
And let us not forget Kieran Donaghy and his success with Armagh. What are the odds now for a Kerry-Armagh final after Monday morning’s draw for the quarter finals?

AUSTIN STACKS LADIES
Our U6 & U8 girls trained in Caherslee last Sunday morning at 11am. The Girls Academy training will rotate every 2nd Sunday between Connolly Park and Caherslee for the Summer months. We will send a reminder into the What App Groups each week. Well done to our U10’s who participated in the Co. Games last Sunday afternoon in Fossa. They were great ambassadors for the club. Thanks to all the parents for their time this afternoon and encouragement. Massive shout out too to our dedicated mentors there would be no club without you. This Sunday all the Academy reverts to Connolly Park at 11am.
Congratulations to our U12A team on a fantastic victory on the road against Dr Crokes tonight in Killarney . The team was led by another excellent performance by our captain on the night Keria Boyle Griffin. Well done to Keria who seemed to be everywhere tonight. In goals Arina supplied some excellent ball to our midfielders and made some fantastic saves when called upon. Our full back line of Lexi Clodagh and Mary tackled fiercely when the ball was kicked into them. Our half backs on Chloe and Keria were outstanding and caused Dr Crokes great difficulty when they broke forward. In midfield both Aoibhinn and Chelsea worked so hard and really showed their fitness and ability to pick up the ball and score from distance. Half forwards Ciara and Dibora worked so well as a unit and fought really hard to win the ball from their opponents kickout.
Full forward line of Sofia Ruth and Eabha won some great ball in the first half and were unlucky not to come away with a few more scores. We went into the half time with a 1-4 to 0-1 lead. From the start of the second half Dr Crokes started to come back into the game more but the team defended with great focus and soon got back on top again. Sofia followed up her first half goal with a few fantastic scores. Goals also from the fantastic Ruth and Eabha put the game beyond our opponents reach. We started to get on top even more with more great scoring from Chelsea and Aoibhinn. Well done to Keria and the team on a great performance which was watched on WhatsApp by Amelie from Spain. She really enjoyed being part of the celebrations at the end of the game. It’s great to see the team play with such confidence and belief in their own ability.
In Rd 6 we are at home to Beaufort at 7pm this Wednesday (June 15th).
Our U12B team put in a fantastic performance this evening against St Pats and were unlucky to not to go away with something from the game. Alexis has a great game in goal launching booming kick outs and make numerous saves throughout the game. The backs of Eimear, Éabha-May, Moira, Clodagh O S. and Lucy were a solid unit and defended with grit and bravery. In midfield for most for the game were the hardworking Shauna and Mary who ran themselves into the ground and provided intelligence ball into our forwards. Up front Clodagh K, Dibora, Sophie Q, Sophie F and Roisin were keeping the scoreboard ticking over. Stacks trailed by 3 point at half time but the girls never gave up. Kayla came on at half time and got on to some great ball. A goal from a free by Sophie Q brought Stacks right back into the game.
Momentum was now with the Stacks girls and in the closing minutes we had some chances but couldn’t reduce the deficit. Final score St. Pats 3-3 Austin Stacks 1-7. A great score put up by our girls and on another night one or two of those points could have ended up in the back of the net. The coaches were very proud of the way the girls performance considering we had a few girls away on holiday. Heads up as we move on to next week’s game and we might get another crack at St. Pats before the end of the year. Up the Rockies. In Rd. 6 we were at home to Finuge/St Senans at 7pm last Mon night (June 13th).
We suffered a defeat by MKL (Milltown Keel Listry) last Wednesday evening in Connolly Park in Rd 2 Co League Div 1. Missing several key players, the girls to their credit fought hard to the final whistle & can be very proud of their effort on the night. In Rd. 3 we were home to Southern Gaels last Sunday (June 12th).
The South Kerry amalgamated side proved too strong a side for our girls who were once again without several key players for this one. We have a bye this week.
We have qualified for this year’s Co. League Div 1 Semi Final, where we will play away to Southern Gaels. Castleisland V Cromane is the other semi-final pairing. These games fixed for July 5th
Upcoming fixtures: North Kerry League Div 1 home V Clounmacon/Moyvane on Mon June 20th. We will play the final round of the Donal Curtin Cup at home to MKL Gaels on June 26th.
