AUSTIN STACKS

Annual church gate collection

Thanks to everybody who contributed so generously to our Annual Church Gate Collection last week-end, despite the inclement weather. And a special thanks to Ger O’Shea, the co-proprietor of The New Yorkers Diner at 5 Bridge St. whose contribution of €50 was by far the biggest single contribution of the week-end. Ger and his family are residents in the heart of the Rock and Ger himself has participated in our Strictly Come Dancing competitions in the past. Thanks Ger again for that splendid donation.

Scór

Brian Caball informs us that Marcas Ó Laoire from Gneeveguilla won the All Ireland Scór Competition in Singing in Castlebar last weekend singing a song (The Hills Around Listowel) made famous by the former Kerry Footballer, Gary MacMahon. Brian also reminds us that our own Aoife Ní Choileáin was in second place behind Mark in the Kerry Final of the competition a few weeks ago.

AUSTIN STACKS JUVENILES

Scór na nÓg

Would any young Rock player or supporter like to represent The Rock by singing in Scór na nÓg (Faoi 17)? Or as part of a five-person (boys or girls) group of singers who’d like to try their luck as a ballad group? Or being in a grúpa ceoil? Or as one of four in a table quiz competition? Come on, Rock!

Coláistí: Rock reps in College Games

(i) Best wishes to the Mercy Mounthawk boys who, after a good victory over Coláiste Choilm, Baile an Chollaigh, in the Corn Uí Mhuirí (U19) competition will face Coláiste na Sceilge (‘Sceilg’) ar an 7ú Nollaig (Wednesday), de réir an sceidil. The Rock boys on the panel: Mícheál Tansley (báireoir), Jack Ó Murchú, Ben Ó Murchú, Daniel Ó Ciarba, Cillian Litchfield, Paidí Ó Laighin, Noah Townsend, Liam Ó Cearmada. (S.de Rís)

(ii) Good luck to the Tralee CBS boys in their next game in the Munster Colleges Senior Football competition (Faoi 19). They’ve had a good win against a very challenging Pobalscoil Shliabh Luachra (An Ráth Mhór) team. Their next encounter is expected to take place in the next few weeks. A lán traenála le déanamh idir an dá linn! The Austin Stack Club players involved: Colm de Brún (captaen), Éanna Ó Cathail, Ryan Ó Drisceoil and substitute Rónán Ó Cearúill. Also on the panel: Josh Ó Loingsigh, Damien Ó hÓgáin, Tomás Derege, Seán Ó Muimhneacháin agus Donnacha Mac an tSaoir. (A.Mhic Lochlainn)

(iii) Neidín proved impressive opponents against ár ngaiscígh Dé Luain (14ú) i Lios Treighe. The Gaelcholáiste’s foireann Faoi 16=BD were kitted and booted on an agreeably wintry morning and this grit to leave the toasty classrooms for a fresh breezy morning outside was indication of their unquenchable will as they headed into a tough tie. They battled hard as the first score went their way. While each of the The Rock stars, Messrs Marc agus Rory Ó Loinsigh agus Gavin Ó Cathasaigh, shone brightly and although the teams remained at stalemate at half-time, muintir Neidín outpaced ár laochra Gael fhéin towards the middle of the second half. Unfortunately, despite contesting the match until the last minute, ní raibh rith an ráis lenár mbuachaillí. After the final whistle they shook hands with worthy Kenmare opponents en route, no doubt, to continue a quality run of form. As for buachaillí an choláiste Ghaelaigh.....they have sprung back from their marginal loss i rith na seachtaine scoile and are more than ready to hit the ground running as their next ties approach. I bhfad uainn an t-olc agus lá eile ag an bPaorach! (D.Ó Loinsigh) (iv) ‘Well done’ to Mercy Mounthawk on their recent excellent victory over Meánscoil an Chroí Ró-Naofa, Clonakilty. Mercy Mounthawk: 3-9; Clonakilty: 1-7.

The Rock players who were part of the win: Róise Ní Dhónaill (captaen), Grace Reidy, Mary Moore, Lucy O’Connor, Holly O’Brien, Grace Ní Luasaigh and Rachel Mulgrew. Bainisteoirí: Amanda Ní Bhrosnacháin agus Louise Ní Mhuircheartaigh. (R.Mulgrew)

Faoi 15

Seaimpíní Faoi 15 Bhordcheantair Thrá Lí agus Naomh Breandán 2022: Olibhéar Lata; Aodhán Ó hArgáin, Bao Ó Foghlú, Tomás Ó Conaill; Liam Ó Conaill, Alex Ób Tuathaigh, Leon Ó Conchúir; Ben Ó Murchú, Rónán Ó Cearúil (captaen); Naode Derege, Gavin Ó Cathasaigh, Cormac de Bastábla; Ruairí Ó Loinsigh, Ryan O’Drisceoil, Jake Cearmada; Adam Mac Seáin, Brian Caomhánach, Jack Ó Duigín, Jayden Ó Muircheartaigh, Jack Ó Seanacháin. bhuadar ar Bhaile Mhic Eileagóid sa chraobhchluiche.
