The Kerryman: Our story

Close

Founded in 1904, The Kerryman newspaper is an institution in the Kingdom, informing and entertaining the people of Kerry. A weekly publication, The Kerryman has three editions - the North & West Kerry edition; Killarney & South Kerry edition and the Tralee edition - the latter being the first weekly regional newspaper in Ireland to be published as a tabloid. All three editions are now printed in tabloid format and are also available online individually as an ePaper. The Kerryman prides itself on stories that matter, featuring news, analysis, sports and a substantial local notes section that gets right to the heart of local communities.

From attacks by British forces during the War of Independence, to threats from the IRA in the 1970s, The Kerryman has itself been the subject of the news since its foundation. The first paper in Ireland to be shut down under the Defence of the Realm Act during the struggle for independence, its printing presses were later blown up by the Black and Tans. But news can never be stopped. From the ashes, The Kerryman rose again and has been at the cutting edge of news across the county ever since.

Formerly an Independent News and Media owned newspaper, The Kerryman is now under the Mediahuis Ireland umbrella.
