GIRLS UNDER 12 SHIELD

This is the first year in the KSBGL for many of the Inter Kenmare  side and they put in a great effort to reach the Shield final. And they went ahead against Inter Kenmare thanks to a Sophie Fleming goal.

Robyn Horgan equalised for Inter Kenmare and then Kate Poff put them ahead. With Castleisland pushing for an equaliser they were caught twice late and goals from Player of the Match Niamh Healy and Saoirse Hussey wrapped up the Shield win for Inter Kenmare.

Camp Juniors opened the better and went ahead thanks to a Caoimhe Skinner goal. However, Listowel Celtic levelled through Laura Meehan after she reacted quickest when the Camp keeper could only parry a free kick.

Rachel Lennon then put Listowel Celtic ahead before the break and when Meehan got her second from the penalty spot they was no way back for Camp Juniors. One of their team was named Player of the Match with the honour going to Sharon Enright.

The big crowd at Kilbrean Park were treated to a cracking final when MEK Galaxy took on Killarney Celtic. Both defences were working very hard to keep the skilled opposition at bay and it always looked like one goal would be enough to separate the sides.

And playing with the wind in the second half a long ball over the top was expertly controlled by Keeva Riordan and she then cut it back perfectly for Naoishe O’Donoghue to slot home. Killarney Celtic battled all the way to the end but the MEK defence held firm to take the narrow win. Keeva Riordan was named Player of the Match.

It was D-Day for the Iveragh United as they knew that nothing less than a win was needed to take the title. And they got the three points required when defeating Listowel Celtic 8-3 to finish above Castleisland who took second spot.

The Iveragh United goals came from the Shanahan’s with Amy Rose getting three and Casey netting four.
