A final call to female soccer enthusiasts in the county to take note that the new Under 17 and seniors Women’s league are in the final stages of being put together and any teams that are interested in joining must have their applications in by next weekend.

Already a number of clubs have signed the dotted line and this is last chance saloon for any clubs that are considering joining.

The big problem with Women’s soccer is that some teams have a huge area to choose from while others are not so lucky.

That is why some kind of measures will have to be put in place to ensure every team that joins don’t be going out every week and getting hammered by the strong teams as that is no good for the teams that win and is demoralising for weaker teams.

In the post-Covid period a ladies tournament was held, but only four teams entered. Still at least that was a start and it would be great to see eight to ten teams involved.

It is also very important to accommodate girls at Under 17 level as all of them will have come through the under age process and an Under 17 league would prepare them for playing the game at senior level somewhere down the road.

It is most important that all the women’s and girls teams have plenty of coaching at their disposal. .

The leagues will be up and running in early November any teams interested in joining the leagues should contact the vice-chairperson Gerardine Nagle or the secretary John O’Regan without delay.
